I just finished "Abhorsen" -- AND I WANT MORE!!!
It's just plain cruel to recommend a book that I will like so much -- knowing that it will come to an end! Honestly -- why couldn't this be the Unending Book? One that you could continue to read from now until the end of time?
Seriously, though, I did love this series. Thank you so much for the recommendation. Got any more? ;-D

Gorgeous books aren't they *grins* It sent me off on tis thing about reaidng books with swords in.. yes, I know, I am strange *L*
Another trilogy I read after that (having to keep swords in the story, and quite fantasy like, and for children *L*) is a series by Lian Hearn.. the first is "Across the Nightingale Floor" followed by "Grass for His Pillow" and "Brilliance of the Moon"..
Not in the Abhorsan class, but good none the less.or.. theres Garth Nix other series (they all have a day of the week in the title.. "Mister Monday" was the first, then "Grim Tuesday" and "Drowned Wednesday" has just come out, but I've not read that yet). They're OK.. I was a little dissapointed in them though.
Oh.. Oh.. I know what I must tell you.. Theres a jasper Fforde festival being held in September.. it looks SUCH fun.. me and a mate are thinking of going.. http://www.jasperfforde.com/festival.html Would that make us terribly geeky??!
And on the subject of Jasper.. he has a new book coming out.. "The Big Over Easy".. looks fantastic and I can't wait!!! *grins* We get it 2 weeks before you, so want me to express mail you a copy??! *lol* And according to Amazon.co.uk we get a new Thursday Next book next year!!! (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0340835702/qid=1117838419/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-5010772-5998056)
HOW excited am I?! *l*OK.. ramble over!!

Now I'm really gonna pout!
You will be intolerably geeky if you go to the Fford Ffestival. Unless I can go too.
Phttt!
You're so lucky to live where things like that happen! All we've got around here are the garlic festival and the asparagus festival. Even the Doo Dah Parade has lost its luster. (That's "lustre" for those of you who don't read 'Merican.)
Have the best time, Nikki, and do go! Send me pictures, will you?

Racer,
We could meet midway in marin at Book Passages. They have GREAT authors who come and speak and it is a really intimate setting. I'll try to find the web link for you. I just saw the guy (damn this middle age memory) who wrote "The World Is Flat" -- he was so interesting! My son and I have taken a writing course from Jon Carol there too.
So, we aren't completely the sticks, you know?

Or I'll take you up on that, and you'll have to meet me in person -- sort of a mini-version of the Chicago Gathering...
Isn't BP in Corte Madera? I think David Watts, author of "Bedside Manners" which I recommend, spoke there a week or so ago. I saw him in Palo Alto, and enjoyed him a great deal.
Hm... Maybe we should consider a rendevous...

I'll watch the author's page and see if someone good is coming. Sometimes they are in SF at the pier too.
I think another gathing in SF would be spectacular. I just have to get through the next few weeks in one piece. It is even odds right now as to whether I can do that or not.

I just finished the first book and I'm so glad there are two more. I had to keep hiding it though, my son was stealing it and reading it into the night.
:)
This is the end of the thread.
