Warming the Stone Child

Posted by gardenergirl on June 1, 2005, at 22:25:39

Has anyone listened to "Warming the Stone Child" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes?

Tofuemmy :) recommended it to me. It's about abandonment and neglect in childhood. The author uses folk stories to make her points, and it's very Jungian. It really resonated with me. I need some time to let it percolate, and I probably will listen to it again before I have much in the way of coherent comments. But it was really powerful.

The author has other books and CD's out there. I'm thinking of getting the one about women's dreams.

Thanks ems!

Anyone else?

GG - I'm so glad you are enjoying it. I'm sure I have other tapes of hers from my books-on-tape addictive phase. I'd be happy to ship them your way. I'll look around.

I have this one and the one on dreams. I liked the one on dreams a lot. I found some of the stories on Warming were too hard for me...I found myself getting upset that no one saved the moon!

Aphrodite told me about the CD and she said she liked to listen to it before therapy because it really took her to an open place and she could sort of sink into it. I tried this and I found that I was sort of trapped in the story and not able to stay in the room. Just another lesson that what works for one person, doesn't work for another.

Loved this tape and I am trying to read another book of hers called Women that run with Wolves.

I think the next one of hers I read is the one about symbols in women's dreams. I forget the title.

It will have to wait a bit, though. I've got too many ahead. And I'm behind in our group reading.
