More small talk - Movies

Posted by TamaraJ on May 10, 2005, at 3:50:58

The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood was on again last night. I have watched that movie a few times now and am still not sick of it. There are other movies I have seen that I could watch over and over: Georgia; Boys on the Side; The Warriors; Rush; Scent of a Woman; Philadelphia; The Rose and The Big Chill (can't think of any others right now).

So, what movie(s) could you watch over and over again.

Hi, movies R me

Vacation
Stripes
Foul Play
Groundhog Day
It's a Wonderful Life
Romancing the Stone
Volunteers
When Harry Met Sally
Shallow Hal

Mind you, some of these may be favorites of mine, but others aren't. I find the qualities that lend themselves to making a movie one I enjoy watching over and over and over again are quite distinct. I don't know what they are, but I know it when I see it. I was shocked senseless to see it in Shallow Hal.

it's been quite some time since i saw those movies, so i don't know if they'd still be to my taste or not. but at the time i remember really being taken by them.

there are so many more movies i love..but i just thought i'd list those that jumped out in my mind...

Ah yes It's a Wonderful Life has to be right up there with To Kill a Mockingbird and I'm almost embarassed to say it An Affair to Remember. Saw The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on the weekend and really enjoyed it too.

Good heavens. If I'm not embarassed to say "Volunteers"... :)

The funny thing is that a list of my favorite movies would probably be different. The movies that moved me most are ones I can only watch occasionally.

I love the movie "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" yet I can barely stand to watch it.

Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2 over and over again! It kicks *ss!

Movies I've thought were really good:
Schindler's List
12 Angry Men
American History X
The Matrix...

there must be more, can't think of any right now :-)

Jai,

I recall your talking about your love of the Matrix. I haven't seen any of the Matrix movies, but I do like Keanu Reeves - yum yum for sure :-) I'll have to check out Kung Fu Hustle. It sounds like a good movie.

Hope you are well. Take care.

I loved the movie Foul Play, and I think I saw it a few times. Very funny. Oh, and It's a Wonderful Life is a classic. What a fabulous movie. Although, I can't watch it if I am feeling down. And, When Harry Met Sally - another goodie. I just love Billy Crystal - he's so cute and funny.

I haven't gone to the theatre to see a movie in a while either. They come out on video so fast anyway, so it's not a long wait to see the good ones. The movies you listed are great. I like dramas and suspense movies (not gorey stuff though). It's funny about movies. I saw The Ref with Dennis Leary a couple of times and was laughing my head off - just loved it. Watched it again a while ago and not so funny that time. Mind you, the first two times I saw it I was high, so that might explain it :-). Who knows. I do like Dennis Leary though.

Oh yes, Driving Miss Daisy was a good movie. I have never seen Shadowlands or The Red Violin, but they both sound like good flicks. I think I will try to get Shadowlands. It sounds like a movie I would really like.

My younger brother really likes the Kill Bill movies as well. The others you have listed - all good choices, although I haven't seen the Matrix movies yet. I'll add them to my list of must sees.

Yeah, Philadelphia is a sad movie, but it is very moving (at least I found it so). For me it wasn't just about death, it was about triumphing over adversity to some degree. I can't go to sad movies in the theatre because, like you, I can get too choked up and make a fool of myself. Better to wait for the video and have a good cry in the comfort of your own home. But then again, I am so weird that I cried at one part of Flashdance!!! Now that's embarrassing.

Just thought of another fave - "And Justice for All", with Al Pacino. That movie was great, and, Al Pacino, well . . . he's fabulous and so very yummy!!

I'm not scared...good movie!

Hi, I just saw an Italian move called:
"I'm not scared"
it's very powerful tale told through the eyes of a 10 year old boy.
well done and riveting.

the red violin...so beautiful.... (nm)

I love them too.
:-)
Though IMO the matrix went downhill after the first one...

Waiting for Kill Bill to come out as a single movie. It was written as a single long movie but the box office thought it was better to split it in two and spend a bit of time on a 'summary of what happened in the last vol.' to maximise profits :-(

So I have been waiting for it to come out how it was intended...

But yeah, it was terrific!
Uma Thurman rocks!!!
(But doesn't she have nasty looking feet!!!)

I loved Pulp Fiction
And Resorvoir Dogs (I just know that is spelt wrong)
:-)

Totally!

Ya, what'z up with Quentin Tarantino...does he have a foot fetish or something? There were a lot of foot shots.

I thought the later Matrix movies weren't as interesting as well.

Hmm...
And there was the whole 'foot massage' thing going on in "Pulp Fiction" as well...
