I forget how old your kidlet is.. but he hs read / listened to any Roald Dahl books?? It just hit me that he was the one author who made me fall in love with reading..

I was chatting with a friend.. so will copy and paste my messages to her here to save my arm!!!

++

Oooh, you can get "Revolting Recipes" in the US.. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0140378200/drbobsvirte00-20

Have the kidlets read any Roald Dahl (or been read to them)? They're such wonderful books for kids.. naughty in a very innocent kind of way! "The Twits" or "The BFG" for 7 - 9 year olds.. "Fantastic Mr Fox" for under that.. and "Danny, Champion of the World" for older.. Oh, and "
George's marvelous medicine
" is about the 7 - 9 years.. Oh, and how could we forget "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" *GRINS*

Like.. In The BFG (Big Friendly Giant), there is a whole chapter dedicated to f*rts (calls whizzpoppers), which are perfectly polite in the Giant World *g*
And in The Twits, Mr Twit has a beard that has left over bits of sardines and things in.. and he puts glue on the tree branches to catch birds to make bird pie (with the feet sticking out the top!)..
I think one of the highlights of my childhood was when one of the baddies in Fantastic Mr Fox picked a bogey, rolled it up and flicked it away *G*

+++

I believe they're a must have for every young child *L*

Just some more ideas!

Sorry to butt in if this is meant to be private, but my son's favorite Roald Dahl book is "Matilda" Sometimes we read it out loud together and we laugh until we cry. (And the woman who plays Miss Trunchbull in the movie is hilarious!

Well, I'm looking like an idiot here... I keep clicking on the link to Matilda by Roald Dahl, and the post keeps linking to a textile book! I'll just hard-code in a link and see if that works! Ptthhh!!

Are you sure you selected that particular "Matilda"?

I think he's read some in school and thoroughly enjoyed them. Perhaps I ought to have him bring some home so that I can enjoy them too. :)

He's almost nine now. Gasp!

Ah 9, the perfect age for me to start influencing his reading material *grins*

Not long now really until you can get "the Hobbit" on tape *grins*

My favourite ever teacher read us "The BFG" when I was about 8.. and it was a real WOW thing.. he read it fabulously for a start, and its such a truly wonderful book!!

Think I'm gonna have to go back and read soe Roald Dahl again myself!!

We already were able to get The Hobbit on tape! We listened to it last summer.

I put The BFG in my cart.

It is a fun age, and I'd be happy to get to read something other than Bionicles. Mind you, I'm delighted at anything the boy chooses to devour on his own. But they aren't written by my favorite sort of writers. How's that for tactful? :)

I much preferred Lemony Snicket and Dav Pilkey.

I've not read this yet, but "Silverfin" is written by a great English comedian, and is about James Bond when he was at school.. its meant to be great fun!
