Thinking in Pictures -- very interesting

Posted by Racer on March 25, 2005, at 18:06:07

"Thinking in Pictures", by Temple Grandin, a very high functioning autistic woman. I knew of her work before I knew she was autistic, and admired her work then -- once I found out she was autistic, I was blown away.

This book is particularly interesting because I recognize a lot of what she describes in myself -- although I am not autistic, I share the anxiety symptoms, and some of the hyperarousal. It's fascinating, because her autism makes it so much harder for her to communicate verbally that she gives much more detailed explanations of some things than someone else might. Funny how her deficits turn out to be the basis for some of her greatest strengths, huh?

I highly recommend this book, it's an interesting read, and informative.
