Recommendation for books on eating disorders?

Posted by Racer on November 21, 2004, at 0:45:09

Specifically Anorexia.

I'm looking for something that might help me in trying to recover, not too touchy feely, not too 12 steppy, not too much cheerleading, but something that will include some first hand accounts, because I'm feeling like the village idiot and it's helping me when I find out that what I'm experiencing is not that uncommon.

Thanks.

Racer,
Don't remember if this was specifically about anorexia, but I was in an eating disorders group and we read "Eating in the Light of the Moon". I really think you would like it.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book, movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

Great book about women and eating disorders

I just finished a great book, title "Appetites", by Caroline Knapp. The local library had it. This is not a 12-step book, nor will it tell you specifically how to overcome your eating disorder. But it gives great insight into why women's appetites (all of them) become a battlefield, about the love/hate relationship with our bodies. Beautifully written by an author who herself has struggled with anorexia. I highly recommend it.

Help Dr. Bob - I don't get it (double quotes)

I'm sorry, I'm new to this and not very computer savvy. I just read your post about double double quotes, and I'm confused. I really don't understand linking either. I think if we use double double quotes, another reader can click on the name of the book and be whisked off to Amazon.com?

Right! See:

For example, " "Appetites" ", except without the spaces between the quotes...
