*sulking* But money was spent anyway!!

Posted by NikkiT2 on January 28, 2005, at 13:58:47

So I went to buy "Pigs Don't Fly" by Mary Brown on Racers reccomendation.. Couldn't find it, so asked them to order it, but they can only order it on special order which will take 6 weeks!!! NO WAY!! Its quicker to order second hand from Amazon from the States! Ooooh.. Ebay.. *dashes off*

But.. I did buy two books while I was there.. "Belle De Jour: Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl".. OK, we are talking less nutritional value than even potato chips.. But I read her blog near the entire length it existed, and so felt compelled to buy the book (though I do worry I bought it only a few days after it was published *L*)

And then, I also bought "Blindess" by Jose Saramago as a group of us are going to read it and post about it at another website I use..

Loving Belle De Jour already *giggles*

Nikki

I can understand your sulking, Nikki, because you have to wait so long for "Pigs Don't Fly", which really is a hoot and a half. I'd sulk, too, but I've got it on my shelf already.

Have you ever read anything by Charlotte MacLeod? She's outside your passion zone, since they're mysteries for adults, but some of them are almost as delicious as a kids' book. I particularly liked "Curse of the Giant Hogweed" and "Something in the Water." You might like them, too.

Speaking of kids' books, though, I forget if we've ever talked about one of my favorites from childhood, whose books I still like: John Christopher? He wrote "The White Mountains", "The Sword of the Spirits", "The Guardians", and a couple of others. He also wrote for adults, but those are obviously of less interest!

And have you ever read "Half Magic", by Edward Eager? Another of my childhood favorites.

Somehow, today I've got kids' books on my mind, maybe because I'm reading Lemony Snicket -- and driving my husband crazy! They're such bon bons of books, and I'm reading them in about a day -- as long as I don't read for long at a time *g* -- so he keeps getting silly about that. But they're like cleaning my palate while I also read "Fasting Girls". Yeah, reading too much about eating disorders, but it kinda helps...

Nikki, you're the greatest, you know that, don't you? It's such a joy to have someone else to talk children's books with.

*laughing* Cleansing my palate is exactly how I described "Belle De Jour" (which won't link as its not on US Amazon yet) to a friend yesterday! *l* After reading a book as long as Shogun I needed something trashy - but I am loving the book *L* Though.. *gets the creeps* Ended up sitting next to a bloke on the bus yestrday who kept asking me about it after reading over my shoulder (and it really is quite rude in places *L*), and then asking if I was reading it because I wanted to become a prostitute!!!! Eeeewwwwwwwww.. I moved as soon as another seat became available *l*
