Anyone read the new Steve Martin book?

Posted by partlycloudy on December 6, 2004, at 9:50:54

I must say I was surprised. "The Pleasure of My Company" is a novel about a guy with neuroses who hasn't been working for a while.
I'd be interested in others' take on the book. I think that Mr Martin is extremely flippant in how he portrays his character's recovery and how it comes about.

Haven't read that one, but probably will. I enjoyed "Pure Drivel" a great deal, and like his writing much of the time. I'll have to check, I may have that one sitting waiting for me to finish a book about treating anorexia...

PC, Yes, I have read it. I really liked it. I think Steve Martin is really funny and charming. I hope they come out with a movie for it like they are with Shopgirl.

PC,
I read the book about a year ago. I rwemember his neurosis well, but not his getting better. I do not remember him getting better, I just remember that he married that girl (not gonna say who as to not give it away to those who want to read it). Sorry I can't help you with that part.

Let's just say the recovery bit took less than 2 pages of the story, which is a huge cop out as far as I'm concerned!
