If you didn't like the last two presidential elections, you might like Larry Beinhart's comic novel "The Librarian". If you really support Gus -- I mean, George -- Bush, you still might like it because it's hilarious. Several librarians get caught up in a vast, right-wing conspiracy.
Beinhart's novel "American Hero" was also great, and unusual. And it had 70 footnotes! Plus tons of cameo appearances by real-life celebrities who did NOT give permission to be used in this novel. Interesting for that reason alone. The movie "Wag the Dog" was supposedly based on it, but I couldn't find any connection. (I'd still highly recommend the movie, too.)
