Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder

Has anyone else read this? It's a novel on the history of philosophy with a really weird twist near the end. The plot somewhat mirrors the thought of the philosopher(s) being studied at each point, which is cool.

I read this book for an assignment in English class, and have since been through it a couple of times. It's definitely one of my favourites, though I'm not yet entirely sure of why.

Has anyone read anything else by Jostein Gaarder? I read The Ringmaster's Daughter and am in the process of reading "The Solitaire Mystery" (well, in French - La mystère de la patience), though I may have to give up and give it a go in English first.

(here's hoping I'm getting the linking right - couldn't find the right one for The Ringmaster's Daughter)

Yup, yup, yup. I loved Sophies World, and the Solitare Mystery was absolutely wonderful: Imaginative and uplifting. It made my inner child/ren very happy :-)

I have also read the Christmas Mystery, which isn't so good (in my humble opinion), but then I am a christmas hater from way back and not much into religious pilgramages.

I have also read Maya which is about an evolutionary biologist. It is okay, but I'll admit that I enjoyed Sophies world and The Solitare Mystery the best.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!
