I really enjoyed "Neverwhere", "Stardust", and "Smoke and Mirrors". Sometimes he does try too hard to be Douglass Adams, but when he just lets himself write in his own lyrical voice, I think he's great. Unfortunately, I'm not crazy about his poems, though; to me, they come across as Grade-C Milton, and they're pretty tough slogging. Atticus

I;'ll start off with giving you a link to neils blog *G* http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/
I loved "Sandman".. My husband collected all the comics, and I bought him some original Sandman artwork by Dave McKean, signed by noth him and Neil. And I also love his childrens books (being a big kids books fan!!).. "Coraline" was truly terrifying *L* Not sure I'd give it to a ten year old child unless I was trying to punish their parents with a sleepless night *l*
"Wolves in the walls" is also great.. With wonderful artwork!

Thanks for the link to the blog! :) I also read and collected all of the Gaiman "Sandman" comics, and I can see "Coraline" and "Wolves in the Wall" in my bookcase from right where I'm sitting. I found "American Gods" to be a bit of a let down only because I'd seen him pull the same schtick in "Sandman" so many times that the idea of gods moving among us in contempary settings seems a bit shopworn. Still have a crush on the Death character, but then, that's probably to be expected from a former punker/Goth like me. I dated someone who dressed just like her in high school -- right down to the black lipstick. Atticus

My daughter brought home a Sandman graphic novel and I really enjoyed it. I suppose I should put him down on the list of authors and books I look for when I'm ordering from the cheap book sites.
This is the end of the thread.
