OK, so I finished it last night (too drunk to lie down and close my eyes.. oh dear!)..
But, nothing I was expecting to happen happened.. Beth didn't die, no one married Laurie..
So?? Am I missing something??!

Where did it leave you hanging? Is there a sequel?
It's been way too long since I read this book. The movie includes all the death and marriages.
Did the mom die yet?

I hate to admit I'm laughing with and at you, darling, but I am -- either you got a *very* abridged version, or you really did overimbibe last night! Of course Beth dies, that's the biggest cry-er in the book for me (and most others, I imagine), and of course Laurie marries -- I just won't tell you whom... (OK, so I forget, but I think it was Amy...)
Check that edition and see if it's either volume one of two, or abridged. Something's screwy, and I don't think it's our resident superheroine.

OK.. I was very drunk (not feeling too bad today as I stuck to beer.. oh, and those shots of shnapps *L*)..
But it did honestly finish with father coming home on christmas day and Beth recovering from Scarlet Fever..
Anyway.. done some investigating, and theres a sequel that seems, in most version, to be part of the first book. Called "Good Wives".. J is passing near the book store, so has promised to pick it up for me!
*l* It is actually the original version.. so stops where the very original version stops, instead of including good wives in it. Now I've read the blurb at the end, it explains it all!!
Damn its too hot for all the chores I am doing here today *l* Atleast I'm sweating out all the beer from last night *L*

That's part 2 all right...The next one is called Little Men which takes up after Jo is married and mommied up and after that there's one called Jo's Boys where the children in Little Men grow up.
I read a terrific bio of Louisa May but I don't remember the name of it. Took a feminist slant..said little women were being stunted by the patriarchy etc. I don't agree. Didn't everyone want to be Jo???
