"The Curious Incident of the Dog and the Night Time", which I found completely engrossing. It's a novel written in the person of an autistic boy.

I really enjoyed Curious Incident.. the parents of autistic kids I know also thought it was a very good insight into the life of someone on the Autisic Spectrum.. an aspergers lad I know helped with the book.
I did think the end was a bit weak though.. like he wanted it ended all of a sudden..
I also found it very very sad.

Yes, it was quite sad. Do you think the portrayal of the main character was accurate and sympathetic? It's how I *imagine* an autistic person would see a situation and problem solve.
Oh, and I just remembered that you're a Brit - isn't it odd to actually have a connection to a book that's been written? That is totally cool.
(p.s. Off topic: I'm going to Britain this August to show it off to my hubby. I was fortunate enough to have lived over there for 7 years.)

I don't think anyone can know how someone who is on autistic spectrum thinks.. but from what I know, and from what others have talked to me about, its pretty accurate.. I found it fascinating.. but when he realised about his mum I felt so so sad for him..
I love reading books that are actually set where I know.. I live in central London so theres alot of them.. one "A White Merc with fins" is actually set one street away which is cool!
And I have been known to go and wander round areas where other books I like are set! I love books that have the tube in them and I can pull them apart on their supposed journeys *laughing* Yes, I'm sad!!
oooh.. *g* Where did you live?? And, if you make it to london *nudge nudge* *g*

I was outside of Manchester, close to the Peak District. it was a nothing village called Marple but it was a great experience. There was a book called "Vurt" that was set in Manchester that I really liked.
We'll be spending 3 precious days in London... I can't imagine what it would be like to meet a Babbler face to face. That would be a fabulous thing to do.
I have loads of family all over Britain but I can't stand, well, ahem, any of them. Not big on communicating, my family. So I am going to show my husband the Britain I came to know and love. My mouth is watering at the thought of a decent curry....

I've always wanted to go there. My hubby has already been, so it's hard to convince him to spend precious vacation money when there are othe places neither of us have been. So I think I may have him convinced, at least, to go to Ireland on our next big adventure.

Wow.. I read "Vurt" years ago.. and the other Jeff Noon books (I forget their names and can't be bothered to walk to 4ft to the book shelves to check them!).. I did enjoy them alot!!
Well, if its curries you're after I can make some excellent reccomendations for London.. There is a street of Indian restaurants that are cheap and utterly fanastic.. most are "bring your own booze" which helps keep down the price of a meal if you drink (though I love the fruit lassi's!)..
I've never actually met a babbler face to face before!! *giggles* I've met tons and tons of people from other websites (including the man that is now known as hubby!!) but never PB! How wierd is that!I'm doing the "tourist" London thing with a friend on Friday who coming down from "up north".. we're starting on the Eye (the giant wheel on the south bank of the Thames), then off to the Tower, then a boat back up to Embankment, walk to Trafalgar Square, then Soho for lunch.. I ahve a feeling that we might not acheive much after lunch though *lol*
Londons great.. sometimes!! *lol*

I feel bad, because I did not get into this book at all. I hated it. I thought it was one of the worst books I've ever read. I always feel really bad when a book that is supposed to be a hit doesn't click with me. Oh well....
