Now, I am a *huge* fan of "His Dark Materials" by Phillip Pullman.. they are awesome books!!
Anyway.. last night I went and saw Part 1 of the play (they've turned the three books into 2 plays).. WOW!! WOW!! It was awesome.. really awesome. The casting was perfect for the most part, and costumes were great.. the scenery was mind blowing, and even the deamons worked perfectly in my opinion!!
If you get a chance to see this (not sure if it will be touring, but I presume so, as the 3 months its on was sold out 6 weeks before opening!) see it.. its wonderful and has make the books even better for me!!
You can see photos from it here -

And, just because I am stupidly proud of it.. The t-shirt I bought from the theatre - http://soiuser.hyperchat.com/fimbrethil/tshirt.jpg
(Hey, Dr Bob.. would be fab if we could do hypertext links!)
I'm still buzzing from it.. and can't wait till March 10th to see the second part!!

I haven't read them yet, but you have convinced me to!
Have you read the 'Dark is Rising' series by Susan Cooper? A friend of mine said they were wonderful - children's fantasy. The first book is "Over Sea Under Stone" which I haven't read yet, but am looking forward to it.
I'm currently listening to "Inkheart" on CD, which is also delightful. Lynn Redgrave does the reading - 14 CDs, I believe, unabridged. I love it.
