I'm too embarassed to respond; I can't finish a book to save my life, really.
I'll think about it and try to come up with a list. I read lots of parts of books; lol. Oh well, it's true. I am waiting on a couple I just ordered, Film Noir Reader and Mapping the Mind. What do you read? I used to read a ton of self-help books, but it got me more depressed than anything else, so I quit, and started taking meds.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

The first time anyone refers to a book without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

I love "Mapping the Mind". I read it in the bookstore when it first came out in hardcover. I don't think I read it front to back or anything, but selections, and looking at the graphics. It is an important book to me, helping me understand some things about hypersensitivity and the amygdala, etc. I guess some babblers might say I'm a little obsessed with the amygdala! LOL But it is a great book. And, definitely one you can read selections of a bit at a time.

Film Noir, eh? Don't know much about it, but have enjoyed some.

What is the definition of film noir--I have a general idea but wonder about where the boundaries are on what can be included in the genre. I think of films like "The Maltese Falcon" for example. But would dark comedies also be included? Or maybe I'm way off altogether?

I often go through long periods of being unable to concentrate on reading, even though I really LOVE reading. Lately, I've been choosing volumes of short stories. Right now I'm reading "The Red Notebook" by Paul Auster. It is a very small book, and the vignettes are very brief. I realized after I started reading that I had actually heard Auster read from this book in person when it first came out about ten years ago and he was making appearances at book stores. This was before the movie adaptations and his NPR monthly appearances, so it was great to be there in a relatively small group of admirers rather than a crowd. I love Auster's work. And this little volume and its tiny short stories works well for me at the moment.
