After Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

Posted by Dr. Bob on January 4, 2003, at 1:07:44

Hi, everyone,

Should we try to keep going? If we stay with the current system:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/books/20020616/msgs/668.html

then there would be (during the, um, discussion of the current book) a week of nominations for and voting on the next book, through 1/8, then a month to read it, then discussion starting on 2/8...

I don't know, Dr. Bob. I (blush) I haven't read Rats yet. I'll try tonight. I see that the discussions have not been robust.

On the other hand, I found "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter" to be a deeply meaningful book to me on a personal level, and I wouldn't have found it without the book board. So thank you for that.

Are you getting a bit discouraged by this board?

Right, I wonder if there's a better way to do this...

OTOH, maybe this is good enough...

I am new and would like to join this 'book club' board. How does it work?

You're just in time. We haven't voted on the next book yet. Post your nominations under the next thread, using the name of the book you're nominating in the title. People vote on that thread by also placing the book in the title. At the date of the vote, we just add up the number of votes for each book, and a month later we start discussions on it.

As it goes right now, I don't think we have any nominations. :( So feel free to nominate.

Okay, I'll try to come up with something. One of my favorite books is Wally Lamb's I Know This Much is True. But it's long and I've read it twice. Plus, I released it in the wild (see bookcrossings.com) so I don't have a copy. I'll get back to you after I do some research! Thanks

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon

But I don't mean to be pushy. Did you deliberately not use it to link to Amazon? If so, I'd be interested in why, over at Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!
