These two vitamins are definitely recommended for schizophrenia due to their antioxidant and anti-depression effects. I tried stopping the Vitamin C, but felt rather flat without it, so now I'm taking it again. I can't say exactly what the vitamin E does for depression. I just know I like it, and it is good for the circulation as well, if you know what I mean ;) I've heard that antioxidant vitamins are useful for schizophrenia, but as of now I'm only using C, E, and selenium. I had failed trials with CoQ10 and alpha lipoic acid. Perhaps there are other antioxidants good for schizophrenia, but I haven't seen anything in the literature about them, and I believe it is a pathetically researched area. I also did not do well on N-acetyl-cysteine which is all the buzz right now. Does it work for bipolar and schizophrenia? We need good research to prove that it does. Anything else is just anecdotal and coincidence. I'm trying to be more scientific about the treatment. Certain key vitamins help. Most supplements do not.

I like your rational approach to supplementing your medications. I just kind of took a bunch of antioxidants, put them together, and threw them at my illness, hoping for the best. Luckily, its turned out OK.
How much E and C do you take? I take 1600 IU E (the natural kind--apparently its better) and 4-6 grams C.

Hello. I only take 600IU of d-alpha tocopherol and for the last two weeks I am taking NO vitamin C or zinc. Apparently, I feel better without them. The vitamin E I still need for some reason. I don't know exactly how it affects depression. I haven't been able to find out why. For some reason, I just don't respond to high doses of Vitamin C. Glad to know that it is working for you. I smoke so I thought taking vitamin C would help, and it seemed to help with my smoker's cough somewhat, but I was only taking 500mg per day, certainly not enough to combat bronchitis or emphysema, which I do not have by the way. I'm still young and dumb. Damn those cancer sticks!!
