Hi, I have done a few trials of 5htp alone and they have all failed... a few times i got very nauseous , but there were a couple good days where i had energy and slept great. It was too inconsistent though, and in the end had to go back on SSRI.
I have some levodop which is l-dopa and carbidopa combined. ( i respond great to dopamine, so side effects, besides insomnia, from l-dopa isnt an issue)
was wondering if anyone has tried the 5HTP with the carbidopa, to ensure most of it is converted to serotonin inside the brain , not outside, which could theoretically give a better response to some people. ..
Do you think its worth retrying 5HTP with the carbidopa I have now? That way i will get the dopamine hit, the serotonin hit and the carbidopa from the drug will ensure the 5htp mainly converts inside the blood brain barrier.
Thanks so much!

I don't think carbidopa increases central serotonin synthesis, just decreases peripherial synthesis.
Anyhow, if it doesn't work, then just try a different supplement. 5-htp doesn't work for me, it just makes me tired and apathetic.

I have never heard from anyone that had a longterm good response to 5htp. Eventually all that serotonin just squashes out everything else, because the usual remedy is to add dlpa or tyrosine to it to restore the original goodness.
With supplements, taking them singularly is not likely to be of much meaningful benefit. These things work in harmony.
Carbidopa might work. That's what they claim is done in Europe. They think Americans have it all wrong by taking 5htp without it. So, maybe you can shed some light on it with personal experience.
