I'd like to hear what people think are good supplements for attention-deficit, particularly inattentive type.
Some meds work ok for me, but the side effects are deal breakers.
I have personally had some help with phosphatidylserine, but not quite to the level that meds work.
I know fish oil is often cited, but that did nothing for me.
Thanks.

Even if you felt nothing on fish oil, I would consider taking for life for many other reasons.
Did you take a fish oil with a 4 to 1 EPA to DHA ratio? Was it pharmaceutical grade? How much fish oil did you take?Other supps for ADD: Grape Seed Extract, Pycnogenol, ginko biloba, gotu kola, MindCare by Himalaya, Chia seed(not a supplement, a food source of other omega 3s and omega 6s), Black Currant Oil, Borage Oil, Ashwaghandha, Alph GPC Choline, stabilized Na R lipoic Acid combined with Acetly L Carnitine, Panax Ginseng, and a good Multivitamin, not crap like centrium silver.
Maybe add some extra Magnesium and Zinc.
You will need a comprehensive approach that you stick with for a long time. Anything that is good for brain health, while maybe not giving you any noticeable benefits, will help you mind function better and help alleviate your attention deficit.
I would also recommend Bikram yoga, it's amazing..of course intense exercise followed by stretching always helps

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I was taking Natrol brand 1000mg fish oil 2 pills 3x a day. Only 1.5:1 EPA:DHA.
I wasn't aware that the ratios mattered. Is there a better brand/formulation you can recommend?
I'll look into these other items. Thanks again.

It's expensive but interesting.
How did it help you?

Nothing is going to help you like medications. St John's Wort may be one of the few natural treatments that can be as powerful as medications. Have you tried SJW? It inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Many ADD drugs target dopamine and norepinephrine. So, maybe SJW would help. You have to get a top quality brand. And there are different concentrations of SJW for different needs. You also have to give it some time, one to start working, and two, to find the dose that works for you.
As far as fish oil goes, Carlson's and Nordic Natural's are very high quality pharmaceutical grade. They are the most well known of all the companies that sell fish oil. You are already taking a product with a high epa to dha ratio. Then again, you may respond really well to Kirkland brand enteric coating with more of a 3 to 2 epa to dha ratio. Like I said before, the enteric coating is what may solve your GI issues.

OOps, you are not the one that talked about GI issues with fish oil, my bad.
I would try taking up to 2 or 3 grams of EPA/DHA. This may require 4 to 6 fish oil capsules a day. I know it sounds like a lot. Just try it, you never know you may feel much better. And if you feel better, you may focus better. I would add borage oil or black current oil to balance your Omega 3s with good Omega 6s. These Omega 6s may help with brain function as well.
I tried phosphatidyl serine, it was too stimulating for me. It made me worse. Everyone is different.
This is the end of the thread.
