I take 20mgs of paxil and I have no drive, no energy and no concentration. Any suggestions from the alternative side?

First, these are just some suggestions, that's all. You might consider asking your doctor for the drug Provigil. It was a godsend for me for about 3 years. It is classified as a stimulant, but it doesn't have all the anxiety that typical stimulants possess. It is great for energy, drive, and focus. On the alternative side, there are some supplements which might help you. vitamins b12 and b6, SAM-E, L-glutamine, and there are a couple of herbs that might help, such as gingko biloba and rhodiola rosea. If you've never taken b12 before, I always suggest to people to start off at a very low dosage, say 250mcg. Most b12 tablets come in 1,000mcg, but this might be too much to start off with. What I do is this: I cut the 1,000mcg tablet into four pieces with a pill cutter that you can get at the pharmacy. Each piece is 250mcg. I would take 250mcg everyday for about 1-2 weeks, then up it to 500mcg. If 500mcg is not enough energy, then gradually bump it up to 750mcg. Eventually, the right dosage will help you with energy and depression, especially if you are b12 deficient. You need to take b12 everyday to reap the benefits. Vitamin b6 is also very good to take. Now, in my case, I like to take individual b vitamins, but some people do good on a b complex (b-50 or b-100). SAM-E is like an antidepressant. It helps in the production of serotonin and dopamine. It is mood elevating. But I would first ask your doctor or a pharmacist before you try it because of possible interactions with your Paxil. Also if you have a lot of anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, etc. SAM-E would probably not be good to take. L-glutamine is an amino acid, and it is good for energy. I found that 500-1,000mg worked for me. Gingko biloba might help you with concentration. I have not tried rhodiola rosea, so I don't know what the effects are, but I've heard that it can help with mild depression, mood, and energy. Good luck and consider asking your doctor about the Provigil. That might work the best, at least that's been my experience.

Also, there is a product called Mind Power Rx by Dr. Ray Sahelian. It is a natural remedy. You can order online. The website is www.raysahelian.com/ I have never tried this product, so I couldn't tell you how well it works. It has a combination of herbs, amino acids, and other nutrients. Good luck.

Some vitamin C during the day may be helpful too.

Depending on how you sleep you may have some success with low dose deprenyl, Hydergine or rhodiola.
