I received a lovely gift of chamomile blossoms for tea and for the last three days, I have been drinking a cup or two every night.
I just noticed for the past two days I have been uncharacteristically in a good mood. I mean singing christmas carols, being wildly productive and creative at work.
Is it the tea or just all in my head?

Chamomile contains Apigenin which targets the same brain receptors as anti anxiety drugs. If you feel more relaxed then you feel in a better mood. Of course you can't rule out the placebo effect as well, which always plays some part.

Do you know if that chemical can be extracted from the chamomille with water or does it require an oil/lipid extraction?
Placebo or not, I feel better.
Seldom.

I thing it contains chrysin, which affects gaba, but is also a fairly potent MAOI.
There is some comparitive binding of chrysin, quercetin, phenelzine/parnate etc to MAO.

Sounds like it's the tea for sure!
I don't like chamomile tea, but hey! I think I can handle it for a test-drive!
If I were singing Christmas carols, I'd be willing to drink pretty-well anything!
Gonna buy some, or maybe I'll buy chamomile extract instead?
hugs to ya, Kath
