You previously stated your concern over at the main board that SSRIs may be cardiotoxic with prolonged use. Do you think this is a danger shared by other serotonergic substances, in particular 5-HTP?

Possably. I don't know how much 5-htp results in elevations of circulating serotonin.
I have seen some reports that suggest 5-htp seems to result in relativly low peripherial accumulation so it *may* be safe.
It may be good to pulse it or use it sparingly until more is known.
I really don't know for sure, but the notion that SSRI's may have similar effects to fenfluramine is not actually my own.
It has been shown that SSRI's can trigger central neurogenesis by activation of central serotonin receptors. Seeing as SSRI's will also alter peripherial SERT, they could well trigger mitogenic receponces and cardiac valve remodelling in a similar manner to other serotonin agonists.
