Is there really more of a benefit in one from the other? I have been taking Carlson's Fish Oil (liquid) for a year but have recently heard about Krill oil. Is it better or about the same?

Well, krill oil contains an antioxidant called astaxanthin, which is not found in fish oil. I suspect, though, that it is left in by a less than thorough processing, as salmon's pink/orange hue arises, at least in part, from this same molecule, which it accumulates from eating krill or similar crustaceans.
I checked the archives, and jakeman posted that a bottle he'd obtained appeared to be somewhat rancid. I bought some, and mine too was rather off-smelling.
Krill oil does contain some phospholipids, and more than a trace of vitamin A. However, the concentration of EPA and DHA is much lower than in fish oils.
I'm not convinced there is anything of substantial merit in krill oil that would account for the premium cost.

Thank you, Larry. I'm glad to hear this because I rather like my Carlson's Fish Oil and the concentrations of DHA and EPA are very good and I feel well. Of course, I take so many damn supplements that I'm not really sure which ones are helping and which ones aren't. I would like to discontinue some, but don't want to mess with how I feel either.

>Hi Lar,
I was wondering about fluoride levels in krill oil? I can't get any in Oz so it is only wondering. I've heard krill have very high fluoride levels in their exoskeleton?

What is the best, purest brand of Krill oil?

Studies have shown one needs at least 2,085mg EPA and 348mg DHA = 2,496mg total for Omega 3 to be effective for depression and other psych issues. Krill comes in such low doses and it is so expensive. One would have to buy a lot of Krill based pills to equal the suggested 2,496mg. My husband and I just had this conversation. It's important that the Omega 3 bottle is opaque becaus the pills can go rancid. We choose to refrigerate our Omega 3 pills. I personally would choose Omega 3 over Krill.

Thanks! I've been having luck with chia oil, though I've had to cut down. My sleep was getting fragmented, which is what happened to me on fish oil, only it didn't take as long to get to that state with fish oil.
