Sea Vegg vs. Drinks (Noni, Acai, Limu, etc.)

Posted by samcastic on June 5, 2007, at 14:30:53

Sea vegetables are amazing. But personally, I don't like drinks. No matter how 'good' they seem to taste at first, I always get sick of them after a while, then I stop drinking them and they become another old refrigerator shelf item. Heck, I like drinking Coke, but I can get sick of that too if I drink it every single day of my life. That's the beauty of capsules. They're easy on the body, and they have no taste. But I'm not impressed with Sea Vegg. If you look at their capsules, they are a dead brown color. It looks like someone just filled the capsules with dirt. Plus, their label is ridiculous. Every other ingredient is misspelled, and some of their claims (like “80 trace minerals”) are exaggerated. I take a product called Living Sea, which is made by iGem Health. They claim to have the freshest seaweed capsules, and they're not joking; these capsules are a dark green color, and get this -- I opened a capsule and poured the powder into a glass of water, and after a few minutes, there were actually large pieces of fresh-looking seaweed leaf floating in the glass! Seriously, it looked like it was still alive, like I had just pulled it out of the ocean. I don't know what kind of process they use to preserve this stuff, but that really impressed me. I'm going to write to them and tell them they should do my experiment and put it up on their website (www.igemhealth.com). Anyway, I've been taking their product for a couple months, and I definitely feel better. I had dry skin on my face which cleared up, and so did my constipation. So I'm already saving money on moisturizer and laxatives. ;) Hopefully I'll see more benefits as time goes on. But if you have a solution that's working for you, that's great, and I wish everyone the best of luck (and health)!

What about Noni?

You got a feeling about that?

I haven't personally tried Noni, but I understand it is touted to have impressive antioxidant properties. I'm not really a fan of these exotic fruit drinks, though. First it was Noni, then Mangosteen, now it's Acai. What will it be tomorrow? And they don't really have an impressive spectrum of essential nutrients; most of them claim to have a host of newly-discovered compounds that are responsible for most of the health benefits, with mixed research from credible and non-credible sources. Not only that, but have you seen the sugar content of some of these?? I think these things play into our "new drug" mentality; we hear of a new, previously-unknown compound discovered in some fruit and we get excited, because we're always looking for the magic cure. I say, let the body do the curing, and give it the raw materials (essential nutrients) it needs to do that. In this regard, I haven't seen a better food than brown seaweed. If some people out there are seeing benefits from fruit drinks, more power to them, but I'll stick with my Living Sea capsules.
