Nerve root pain

Posted by Declan on February 8, 2007, at 19:38:01

From time to time my degenerative spinal condition (how I love to embrace the portentious and fearful) causes me pain.

Right now I can feel the thing in my upper back that is referred from my neck. Last time it took 6 weeks to resolve.
Kinda interesting, but you wouldn't want to have to do much else when it gets going (easier for me than most).

Apart from DLPA, which I find it hard to get enthusiastic about, what about fish oil and alpha lipoic acid?
ALA is used with neuropathy, but is that different?
There's a limit to how much fish oil I can tolerate.

I may have to poison myself with ibuprofen.

Any ideas?

I've really no idea if they would help, BUT thy did dull to almost gone my tooth nerve root pain and fascial pain..and Bob (friend on my blog who posted here a while ago once) found chewing garlic seemed to help his tooth nerve root pain .he trid it as garlic was high in B1 I think?
Apparentl;y tyrosine helped me previously looking back.. but it's not something one can usually continue over a period.

Sorry to hear of your back Dec.

Hey!

>tyrosine >but it's not something one can usually continue over a period.

I was wondering why not? I loved tyrosine when I tried it (as an mood lifter) and I only took it for one day. I haven't dared to take it again, simply because it doesn't somehow seem right. But i was wondering if you knew of something else or what made you say that?

Kind regards

Meri

Hey Declan,

Havig the same painful problem (I lack 4 discs from a genetic version of DDD and refuse fusion). I have found that controlling inflammation has been the most effective for me. Vitamin C (via Pycnogenal sp.?), SAMe (working to add this), Alpha Lipoic, DL phenalaneline (SP?).

Additionally , diet plays a major part. Refined white sugar is a huge trigger as is alcohol (raising my eyebrow) ;-), coffee, and the biggest no-no smoking...

Lastly, there is an emotional part to the pain as well, not to metion the stress- induced pain. I noticed my pain increases when I have life stuff happen.....

Speaking from a heck of a lot of experience, PLEASE be careful with the drugsfor pain. ......

Hi there
My situation is not so bad as it seemed (mild panic), and I forgot a few good ones.
Turmeric in decent doses with maybe that type of pepper to help absorption
Boswellia
Tangeretin and nobelitin

Low carb/high fat diet reduces pain problems.

possibly a fit with the B1 helping there..as b1 is consumed by carbs, ie. low carb conserves B1
