Chinese herbalism

Posted by DannaB on December 22, 2006, at 0:25:18

Hey all,

I went to a very highly regarded Chinese herbalist. He diagnosed me as having a lot of problems and put me on a regimen of teas and pills twice per day. My kidneys have felt slightly tender since I started taking these medicines, but otherwise I feel fine and my mood has improved.

What could the soreness be from, and do you think it's worrisome? For those of you who tried Chinese herbalism, what did you think?

With the right practitioner, there is nothing like it. There's certainly a lot of combinations of individual herbs, and that can make assessment of it difficult. Chinese herbalism is the most interesting and effective branch of herbalism (IMO).
There are controversial aspects of it at the edges, but I have only ever been prescribed standard really safe things and have never had any difficulties.
I'm said to be 'spleen deficient', a common pattern in the West, apparently.

I was told to be "kidney deficient" , I think it sinteresting, but have not had the patience to stick with herbal b/c it supposedly takes so long to build up and start working, but I have had some short term success with cupping. As soon as it was done a massive endorphin rush occurred, you may want to check it out.

Apparently kidney deficient types can profit from eating adzuki beans. I should sprout them myself.
