I know most people are hoping to lower cortisol levels. In my case, cortisol levels are way below normal. Is it a coincidence that if I feel half decent some evenings that is also the only time of day where my cortisol is up? (but only barely to the low end of normal). I don't know. I was wondering if there was an herb or something I could try that will raise cortisol levels and see what happens. If it is something that boosts adrenal or norepinephrine function, forget it, already been there done that. Not cool. There must be some tame way to increase cortisol?

The safest way to increase cortisol levels is heavy exercise.

Has anyone mentioned Licorice?
Licorice is supposed to Nourish the Adrenals and boost Cortisol level, there are some studies backing this up!
Licorice extract is Cheap so it seems worth a try!

Licorice. Cool idea. That's just the kind of thing I was looking for. Actually now that you mention it, I tried licorice for one day last year. I felt a bit stimulated and warm on it, but overall I wasn't impressed. I do not remember why I did not continue for a second day. The next day though I had a really good day...calm, relaxed, sociable, no depression, no anxiety. It was a rare treat straight from heaven. Now I wonder if the licorice the previous day had anything to do with that.

As a suggestion it seems a bit off at the deep end, but at least its worth a try!
Whats more interesting is that there's some kind of Licorice extract-Monoammonium Glycyrrhizinate
that might be more affective than the basic licorice extract.

I think the best time of the day to take Licorice is in the morning when the body should have normally high levels of cortisol; cortisol is important for circadian rythm.

Licorice tea is actually quite tasty, ammonium glycyrrhizate is a potent sweetener.

Also licorice can be taken when you feel the need for it..while cortisol does have a morning peak, and another boost in the afternoon though not a high..some people have an adequate morning level but need that boost in the afternoon, or even evening if they drop really low then
just dont take it near bedtime I guess and go by how u feel. How I felt was backed up by blood and saliva tests for cortisol and they all agreed, I was good in the morning, aft peak not as high as it should be without an easy(non stresful) day and an afternonon 2 hr sleep!..and evening dropped to unmeasurable by night..which is why I couldnt stay awake I guess.
mine seems fixed now with B1..maybe even a bit too high.
Also Cortisol might be increased by anything that increases the pentose pathway flux, I think?.. ie Magnesium, B1, B2, biotin ..sorry forgotten others, but if you need more of these taking any of these that you may be short on will increase cortisol eventually

I guess look up pentose pathway and try all the things involved, at least if fatigued as well?
I think that's how I got my cortisol up to healthy levels.. BUT I still dont have enough to cope with stressful situations
