I think it was turmeric, but I'll let Link answer for himself...... I think there are plenty of studies on this. Try searching the alt board perhaps?

I hear estrogen is a large inhibitor of MOA, both men and women need estrogen in there system

Yes, estrogen works to inhibit MAO-A, so does thyroid I believe. Estrogen also regulates the activity of the serotonin transporter.
I think excessive thyroid will inhibit MAO-A further. Thyroid has marked AD properties. So, theres no way to know that high MAO-A isn't the result of some hormonal imballance. These people may just have had hypothyroid.

Yeah, I have tried turmeric as an antidepressant and all I can say is that it "works".
I've had a lot of people say..bla bla, you couldn't be getting significant MAO-A inhibition, so it could't do anything.
Anyhow, I took 1/4 tsp about 8-10 times/day.
Just mix 1/4 tsp in hot water and swallow with nose plugged.
I've taken theraputic doses of parnate, so I feel that I can perform some comparison.

Its not expensive if you buy it as a spice.
You don't have to take that much, you can start with say 1/4 tsp 3 times/day.
