high fat diet hurts your memory

Anyone else hear about this?

My memory got way better when I gave up all the junk food years ago. I couldn't remember one day from another, and my anxiety was much worse than it is now.

Something to watch out for.

Check the ingrediants, and avoid a lot of fat.

I'd say that it depends too on the type of fats. Omega-3 for instance has been shown to improve cognition in health and disease states.

Very low fat diets could also cause havoc on memory. Low fat diets have been linked to depression for instance.

OK, I just looked up the types of fat.

I take omega 3 all day. I wonder if that counts as high fat or not.

Saturated fat and transfat are pure evil, while Monounsaturated, Polyunsaturated, and Omega-3 fatty acids are ok... except high dosages of some cause memory problems, and other health concerns. Which ones though? I'll have to do more googling I suppose.

If anyone knows anything, please post.

I think that saturated fats harm memory by lowering BDNF. I read that saturated fats and omega-3 compete for the same binding sites in the brain, but that the omega-3's improve cogntition by increasing BDNF, while saturated fats decrease it by lowering BDNF.

i read a study that fatty foods can cause temporary elevation in sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen).

this may be related to the fact that sex hormones are made from cholesterol (whether it comes from animal fat or the body produces its own cholesterol).

Low fat can go too far too. I get substantially more depressed when I change my diet to reduce fat. So called low fat blues?

does Omega 3 cancel high fat diet problems?

High fat raises something, while Omega 3 lowers it back again. How much of one is needed to counter the other? Anyone know?

I can just pop a few Omega 3 capsules after a hamburger, and the karma is balanced?

well I must be the exception to the rule, because my memory has improved on high saturated fat/low carb. Along with everything else including a disappearing act of my eczema and acne. I dropped fish oil and eat fish now.

YMMV of course.
