WHY oh WHY Omega 3's and my acne issue

Posted by spriggy on August 16, 2006, at 0:49:42

I was told on here that possibly trying a different brand of Omega 3's wouldn't cause the acne issue as it had in the past.

Not the case for me.

I started up the fish oil 2 weeks ago- the horrible acne has returned.

I know it is the fish oil becuase I do NOT ever have problems with acne- UNTIL I try fish oil..

When I quit it, the acne disappears.

I am curious though if I STICK with this and not give up, will the acne go away?

Is it possible the Fish oil is causing a "detox" type of effect and maybe cleansing me from toxins and that is why my skin is suffering?

If that's the case, I'll stick with it because I want the toxins out of my body ( not necessarily on the end of my nose.... but whatever ROFL).

Any thoughts?

What brands have you tried?

I am really picky about the brand of fish oil that I use and there are only a few on the market that I would take. I certainly wouldn't take any from farm-raised fish.

Currently, I'm using Carlson's and I'm quite happy with it. I take 3000 mg per day and I think a 2-month supply only costs me about $20.

I talked with a nutritionist about how Omega 3's/fish oil actually CAUSE acne for me ( when I don't normally have it) and she said her only thought would be that because it can increase testosterone in some people, it could be the increase of testosterone that is creating acne in me.

I feel better on fish oil ( anxiety and energy) but I get horrible acne.

So now I have to decide if I want to feel better and have puberty skin or feel crummy and have nice skin.

Decisions... decisions..

I'm curious too. What brands have you tried and what are you taking now? I agree with the previous poster about Carlson's also.

I have similar experience with fish oil.
More than 4 gram of fish oil will induce acne.
If you do not have problems with insomnia you may want to try fish oil in the form of free fatty acids. This type of fish oil is more efficient and can be used at lower dosage.
