Seep deprivation can be a way to kick-start an antidepressant. As a longterm solution is would probably wreak havoc.

Sleep deprivation is the only antidepressant that makes me feel normal.
Some doctors have had sucess with treating depressions with a combination of sleep deprivation and lithium.
Sleep deprivation has all sorts of interesting effects on monamines, from serotonin to dopamine. It is also very effective for depression in parkinsons, which points to a dopaminergic mechanism.

I had a couple of instances of this - felt amazing after practically no sleep. Also more money in the sleep bank for the next night - but I really hate laying awake at night, and I'm not exactly physically my best completely zombied out (although happy). For me I always thought it just dumped my anxiety as I was too tired to feel anxious and could actually appreciate life for once, without feeling mega-wired.

its an ancient technique for curing many neurotransmitter related illnesses, specifically depression... actually still used in france, as well as a couple other countries i believe (brazil?). however, their idea is much 'heavier'... special three week clinics that help keep you awake for the whole time, getting roughly two hours of sleep a week (or was it two nights worth), scattered throughout. then, youre cured, lol... or so they say. it does make a ton of sense, given how much that would whack out a normal persons brain chemistry, or balance out an already inbalanced persons... enough to possibly last a lifetime, or at least a really long time. definitely do a bit more research on the subject (i will post more as i find it as well).
This is the end of the thread.
