Albizzia

Posted by verne on January 17, 2006, at 17:35:48

I'm thinking about trying Albizzia again. I've yet to try in its natural state - bulk flowers or bark. Anything with the warning, "don't operate heavy machinery" can't be all bad.

The tincture and formula (albizzia was just one of seven Chinese herbs) didn't work for me. I just couldn't get past the alcohol and heavy body load with the elixir.

Now I'm trying to locate an online vendor. Think I once bookmarked an herb store in Olympia Washington that carried it but can't seem to find it now.

Sounds promising. One website described it as the Chinese Prozac. Apparently it's from the mimosa tree and people use the flowers for remedies such as depression. Since they grow around here I wonder if a particular species is needed and the best parts to use and how.

warm regards, Jake

Thanks for following this up Verne. I was wondering how you got on with it. I tried the tea which does have some effect but it's mixed with so many other chinese herbs I don't know what was working.

The tea I tried is called Birt & Tang Relaxing herbal tea. The Albizia used is called Albizia Julibrissin which is also known as Silktree Mimosa and this is the Albizia which is used to treat anxiety and depression, quite sucessfully in some cases it seems.

I've been quite curious of this herb, since I've seen some info about it on pubmed.org, which is impressive. That mean that it probably has so true value. Too bad herbs like this don't get quick research so they can be sold in North America... I can only see Albizzia being a chinese herb for several years before it starts to gain any recognition over here.
