Uridine trial for depression

Posted by aabag on December 10, 2005, at 2:25:02

Well, I'm tried uridine. It hasn't done anything to my skin, and I've ingested about a half a "standard" pill capful of it, without any adverse affects.

I'm not quite sure what the MSDS it talking then. It sure would put a scare in you if you read nothing but it regarding uridine.

Uridine has been used to treat various diseases and is under development (in a pro-drug form) for depression, and is a natural constituent of molasses, and is available in NucleoMaxx. It doesn't taste too good, but nothing much happened (which is a good thing).

Tried uridine again this morning, this time a larger amount (can only give a visual which isn't precise enough). I will need a scale to measure the precise amount being ingested, but the good news is, this stuff is not nearly as bad as the MSDS on sciencelab.com would lead you to believe.

Actually, it's just exactly as benign as the MSDS would have you believe. Those things are written as PYA (protect your *ss) documents. Did you read the one I posted about sodium chloride? Do you have any fears about handling it? Spreading it on your sidewalk? Loading up the french fries?

Dissolve your uridine in a small glass of water.
Follow with another of just water. That's what I would do.

In trying to get the dose right, I measured 3/4 teaspoon uridine with a mass of one gram, put that in water, and drank it without any ill effects.

For the Omega 3, I am trying 48 g per day (flax) in combination with the 1g uridine. I know that the 71 mg/kg from the Harvard study equates to a higher dose than 1g uridine per day (somewhere near 5 or so), but I'll give this a shot for a while.

Last, I'm not sure that this uridine (the nucleoside form) isn't metabolized by the liver in its "raw" form, and that anti-depressant effects wouldn't be realized unless ingesting a different related molecule (uridine monophosphate, for example). More research and I'll figure that one out.

Well, I'm using about 3/4 teaspoon uridine (along with 48 g Omega 3), and today was a "good" day. I actually felt something like happiness. Not only that, but it wasn't fleeting. Could be the power of suggestion or belief (placebo), time will tell.

aabag..any follow-up?

How is the uridine going?

Some follow up I am still feeling better than usual (happier) while using the uridine/Omega 3 combination. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/2 teaspoon uridine ( close to 1 gram) and 48 g Omega 3 (from flax seed oil). I sure wish there were a more readily available source of uridine though. I mean, the Nucleomaxx stuff looks extremely expensive for being an extract of sugar cane. And who sells sugar beets - no grocer on the planet.
