Hello,
I just typed out a long post but accidently deleted it. I was on this board in a very serious depression about 2 years ago. Nothing had worked for me and I started having extremely negative reactions to Effexor and another anti-depressant.
Long story short, I tried 5HTP and it worked and has continued to work perfectly for 2 years straight. I was up to 6 pills for a while at my psych's wishes (she is both a holistic and medical psych) but have only been taking 2 pills a day now for about a year
I felt immediate effects from it after about 5 days to a week of taking it and the fog completely cleared after about a month or two.
Just wanted to share my story because I know how hard depression can be and trying to find a med that works. If this can help just ONE PERSON, I will be happy. It might be worth a shot for you. Look into it first, research and see if it's right for you. Don't take with SSRI's of coarse
Hope all is well and best of luck to everyone. I know that depression is probably something I will have to deal with the rest of my life, but luckily I have been stable for a while now and I know it's because of 5HTP.
If my friend I met on here years ago is still around post and say hi! (you know who you are!) Take care guys

John 1022--5-HTP works fine for me too, as I have had dysthymia and ADHD. Have you noticed it helps you in the sex drive department ?
Thanks
Marc

Marc yes I have noticed that. Effexor actually caused some pretty serious problems even years after taking it in the sex department for me. Really delayed the whole process even way after stopping it. 5HTP helped that noticably, still not perfect though. the desire was always there except when I was in a deep depression but just hurt the performance.
I was not aware that it affects dopamine, interesting.
Well best of luck, this stuff really works and I can honestly say it may have saved my life. Take care all

I take Lexapro, not safe to take 5-HTP with it? It works okay (15mg) and I'd rather not discontinue it.
Second, what type 5-HTP should I take? Nature Made?
