Tep, I dunno why it should help, not the gotu kola anyway. Isn't it used to repair connective tissue or something?
I'm not sure that there are any herbs or alternative things to help with social anxiety, except for coca leaves, not so far south from you.
Rhodiola?
Deprenyl?
5htp?
Seroctin?
This velvet bean l-dopa thingo?
phenibut?
If I could think of anything better Tep I'd be taking it.
All the best

Hey Tep, you learn something every day. You may be onto a good thing. Michael Tierra in "Planetary Herbology" says 'In Ayurveda it is considered the prime nervine tonic and is used to treat insomnia, stress, nervousness and disturbed emotions, and many nervous system disorders. It promotes mental calm and clarity and assists in the practice of yoga and meditation. It possesses tonic properties and could be considered a yin tonic like eclipta.' Sooooo.....as you would be aware gotu kola is combined with bacopa and is then called Brahmi. Bacopa took my fancy when it was described as the foremost tonic in Ayurveda for insanity. It has a stimulant type effect.

Yes it might. There is a neuropeptide (I think its a neuropeptide) called CCK, that is involved in fear & anxiety reactions. If I recall, 5-ht3 activation is involved in CCK activity, which is why SSRI's make some people's social phobia much worse.

There is some pharamcudical research being undertaken on the effects of CCK moduation on social phobia.

This may be of some interest.

Another herb to look at might be ginger root.

That study used 12g of gotu kola! My gotu kola capsules are 500mg. I'd have to take 24 of them to equal that. But I certainly would like my startle response attenuated - I jump at noises people around me barely notice.

I think that magnesium also has the ability to reduce startle responce. Chronic noise stress depeats magnesium stores.

Maybe magnesium and gotu would produce a synergistic effect.

As far as herbs go, I really like gotu, for its benifit and high tollerability.

Linkadge, what effects do you get from Gotu Kola?.
Once I tried a bottle of 500 mg whole herb and after several days I felt a stimulation, but I am not sure if I was taking Gotu alone.
It may be a very good supplement to take if it really works, it is atributed to be good for the brain, mamory, depression, anxiety, skin, veins, etc. and it is not too expensive.
Anyone who tried it and got good results plese post brands, mine I think it was Good´n Natural.
Re social phobia, I do not think it can help too much.
Thanks
