hubby bought me a light box..

Considering I live near Seattle and it rains (and rains and rains) from October to June (and even when it's not raining, it's dark and dreary), my dh thought it would be a good proactive step.

He was being nice/kind and thought he'd surprise me. I personally would've liked to have done more research but I know he did it out of love.

Anyway, it will not be here for another week (shipping). He thinks he bought the best one; it came from COSTCO- something about they used it for astronauts. ROFL

I don't plan on going to the moon, I just don't want to have anxiety or depression.

Anyone know if they really work?

What if you are possibly bipolar? Any problems? Would this be a good way for me to find out if I am indeed Bp? ROFL

Hi,

I grew up in the Northwest so I know what you're talking about. I lived in Portland, Seattle, and all over the Oregon Coast.

I bought a light box and several full spectrum bulbs (vitalites) a couple years ago. I noticed a significant difference. Within a week I was walking for the first time in months. The depression was more manageable and I was less fearful in public.

My lightbox is now sitting in my "library" behind a bunch of shelves, boxes, and books. My daughter and her boyfriend plan to help me reclaim this space next weekend.

I use the lightbox to illuminate an entire room. I have it off to the side of my reading chair recessed in a cube about 4 feet off the floor. The cube blocks the glare and directs the light outward. It may not be as therapeutic but it's very functional. I think any amount of full spectrum light is good.

Thanks so much.

IT came today- I have it on right now as I sit at the computer. The brand is:

www.mygolite.com

We shall see if this works! IT can't hurt to try, right?
