Seligiline/Depranyl

Posted by Jed_G on October 9, 2005, at 22:27:10

Hi,

Ive just started on Depranyl with amazing results. I feel normal!

I dont have parkinsons but I do have bio-chemical depression (low serotonin and dopamine), from post-viral fatigue.

Anyone aware of the long term efficiency of Seligiline and if it is safe for a younger (30) person for long term use.

This is the first prescription AD (i also use samE and 5htp) that works well for me.

Cheers,

John G.

I think deprenyl's safe as houses if it's a low dose you're taking. I've taken it for years, with and without SAMe. The worst deprenyl at low dose will do is give you or aggravate insomnia. I've ranged from 1-7.5mg/d, mostly at the lower end for maybe 10 years. Being 30 wouldn't bother me. You never know, it might actually be good for you like it was for those male or was it female beagles.
(Now that I think of it we have a beagle. Should we put him on Anapryl? Do we want him to live longer?)

Your neuro-physiology sounds pretty similar to mine...SamE works a treat for me.. Did a virus bring on your symptoms? You didnt have cfs did u?

LOL! Thought you'd lost your marbles but obviously there was a trial done with beagles eh?
Might look that one up...

Thanks for the feedback,

I have post viral syndrome too. I am taking Dexedrine IR 25mg and spansules 15mg, Wellbutrin XL 150, A small amount of Cymbalta 10-20mg.

My mood is fine but cannot move for days at a time. I am struggling with fifth disease for the second time, it's not always this bad.

I really want to try the Deprenyl.

Declan, you have taken it for a while. What exactly do you feel it helps you with?

My biggest issue for the last few years has been lethargy, amotivation and weakness. I have some painful joints but the physical pain is so secondary to the mental suffering.
I just feel dead alot of the time and have this weird cotton-head feeling in my brain.

Sometimes it all comes together and my brain is fully awake. Most of the time I am just straining to fully awaken-does this make sense?
It hurts!
In a way I cannot really describe.
It is so terribly frustrating.

I think that Tyrosine, Ginko, Vinpotine and occasionally DMAE help.
Any suggestions?
Peace,
Kaye

Hey Kaye, I'm terribly sorry, I never look this far up the board.

You don't say whether you suffer from insomnia. But you do say that you respond favourably to tyrosine and ginkgo, so that might be dopamine related. In which case deprenyl might be good.

I've taken deprenyl or selegeline for the best part of a decade, just about always low dose. Since I suffer from a dreadful sleep cycle/architecture etc I keep the dose down to 1mg/d sublingual deprenyl citrate.

Now, what does it do for me, apart from encouraging depraved fantasies? (Well, I dunno about that, I'm probably just like that, then again....)
It's no big deal, but it's certainly my favourite supplement. Makes you feel a bit younger, puts a bit of a spring in your step, makes you think about sex more, makes you feel mentally clearer. But probably not much clearer unless low dopamine levels are causing you to feel this way. Even so, cleare, better, younger. The effects are cumulative(I think), there's been no pooping out.

My wife took it for a while, 2.5-5mg selegeline for 3 weeks. She said she didn't notice anything and her sleep was undisturbed. OTOH 2 days on rhodiola and her sleep was patchy. (Normally she sleeps very well.)

The effect is very like that of mucana pruriens.

I really liked the combination of deprenyl and rhodiola. I felt euphoric but couldn't sleep properly at all.

Anyway I'd bet my bottom dollar that deprenyl is better than Wellbutrin. I've not taken it, but did take Tenuate when I was young and clueless, and it wasn't rewarding.

I hope you get round to reading this.

Declan
