Just started tryptophan a couple of days ago. I am following a protocal from Bio-Recovery Inc, which is the company that I ordered the supplements from. Could anyone tell me approximately how long it takes before I should feel some effect from the Tryptophan?
Also, any comments on this pill schedule:

I can't tell you from personal experience, as I haven't started l-tryptophan yet.
I am reading a book called The Mood Cure and the author says that some people experience positive effects within hours, while some people it takes a few days. Are you feeling any different? How about side effects. From what your post says, it sounds like you're taking a lot of tryptophan.
I'm sure others will have more and better advice for you.
best wishes,

Not really feeling any different yet, but no side effects either.

Hi Dan,
If the tryptophan doesn't work on it's own will you consider combining it with an antidepressant?

If the tryptophan doesn't work at all, I see no reason to continue taking it. I'm planning to give it a few weeks, and if it doesn't work at all I will discontinue tryptophan and go back to Parnate.
I'm not sure what I will do if I get a partial effect from the tryptophan.

Hi,
Tryptophan (Optimax) is available on prescription in the UK but it's only approved for use in combination with an antidepressant. Perhaps it really would be useful to combine it with an AD if it didn't work on its own.

Dan,
Have a look at this post by Larry:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/alter/20041123/msgs/427152.html
He mentions that taking tryptophan on an empty stomach with a glass of fruit juice (the fruit juice (a carb) would cause insulin to drive the tryptophan to the brain). Might be worth a try.
Good luck to you.

I'd just like to plug the double double quotes feature at this site:
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#amazon
The first time anyone refers to a book, movie, or music without using this option, I post this to try to make sure he or she at least knows about it. It's just an option, though, and doesn't *have* to be used. If people *choose* not to use it, I'd be interested why not, but I'd like that redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration:

Thanks!

Dan, I have taken L-trypophan for years. It stoped my depression almost imediatly. The sugar or fruit juice mixture works well. But, If you have a glass of wine once and a while-try a scoop of tryp. mixed in with the wine. That really gets it into your system. Good luck
