comments on fish oil info please!

Posted by LOOPS on November 16, 2004, at 16:41:00

Hello everybody -

I'm still having good success taking 5-6 double concentrate fish oil caps per day, about 3.5g total omega-3. I did freak out the other day, but then I did have PMS, and other than that I have been much more focused and calm, especially round other people. The fish oil has done sod-all for my eczema though, which is disappointing. Am also taking EPO, B6, taurine, zinc, 5htp, Relora, vinpocetine, B complex, but these things I have taken on and off for the past year or so and so it's definitely the fish oil making the difference.

Found this website, would like people's comments/experiences with fish oil, to see if anyone here has had the success some of this bloke's patients have had. I would especially like to see if anyone else has had an impact on drinking/smoking habits by taking fish oil (I live in hope).

Cheers!

~~~Well, the article's findings are amazing and sound a little too good to be true to me. I have had really good results with using fish oil and now, Salmon oil using a dose to get up to about 1,000 mgs of EPA. It is one of the few suppliment products I have stuck with after leaving many in the dust. I think it's helpful to me moodwise and for arthritis matters. I find my results good but can make no amazing claims.
Hi -
thanks for the feedback -
what's the deal with salmon oil?? Is it better?
Also, what effects have you noticed from taking fish oil?
I keep on noticing improvements as the days go on. It's presently 7.30pm here in Chile, and usually I have a beer in my hand at 6.00pm - so far, nothing! Ha, but that doesn't mean it all goes to pot later on. I am also managing to keep on top of housework and bill-paying - something which always stresses me out as it is never-ending and I have zero motivation to do the merry-go-round day-in-day-out. Seem to be doing it automatically since the fish oil.
I'm also upping my protein intake and eating lots of nuts, which might also have an impact on regulating my blood sugar, which is one of the reasons I usually pine after alchohol.
I also recently discovered Holy Basil extract which seems to be relaxing me, along with my sjw, 5htp and fish oil.
I noticed with the high dose fish oil, the first few days I was a little hyper and my sleep was disturbed, but after about a week this settled down and I don't feel hyper anymore - just kind of nicely 'normal', which I haven't felt for quite awhile. I don't feel as anxious around people either, which is nice.
I read somewhere fish oil has an impact on stress response - I think there is a pubmed article on how some people were given a mental stress test both on and off the fish oil and the people on the fish oil were less stressed.
Well it's good stuff IMO. I almost stopped taking it because I thought it was making me manic, but that really did settle down after a bit.
Hello Chile from the US...
Here's a link to my posting about Salmon Oil a while back.
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/alter/20041022/msgs/408291.html
Motivation and drive are issues for me and have been for a while - I think it's just me and getting a little older.(smile) I'm resonably sure I would be less likely to be as productive as I am if I didn't use the Salmon oil. I've tried alot of things and, for one reason or another, I've dropped them, but I agree, the fish oil stuff is good. My major problem is an anxiety disorder. My depressive symptoms are low lying and generally occur when my anxiety is ill controlled. I don't have any symptoms of BP. There are times, I've wished for just a touch of mania to get some of the tasks done that are required of me. (Just jokin'---)
I've not a big drinker of alcohol, it's mainly on rare occassions, so I don't really have alot of experience as to if it curbs that desire.
Sounds like you are doing pretty well. Hope this continues for you.
