TEA LADY HELP NEEDED RE THYROID

Posted by Maxime on February 1, 2004, at 3:53:23

Hi Tea Lady. You seem to have a lot of knowledge about the thyroid. I'm hypothyroid and on synthroid. I have been really depressed lately and feeling tired etc. So I went to my GP to have my TSH levels tested (T3 and T4). In July my Synthroid had been increased. Despite this my levels were more out of whack than ever. She accused me of not taking my meds. So she has increased my Synthroid from 1 mg to 1.5.

You know, my GP is stupid, you know that, right? I mean don't you think she would be interested to know WHY my thyroid got worse even though my meds increased? Anyhow, I did some research and there are meds that prevent the absorption of Synthroid. One, is any med that is a dopamine agonist, which would be my Parnate. Another is Tegretol and Dilantin (and other anti-seizure meds). Now I am not on Tegretol but Trileptal is an oxygenated version of it. Should I call her or something? I mean will this increase do anything if my other meds are going to interfere? I can't go on feeling like this. What should I do? Call her? And why wouldn't she have looked it up herself? Let me know what you would do. My whole body hurts and I am soooo tired.

Well I sure hope you are picking up now..but I don't think you are really on 1mg or 1.5mg...try looking again...
I bet its 100mcg to 150mcg (or .1mg changed to .15mg??)

I can't really comment without knowing your levels. Perhaps the thyroid forum would be better to ask these questions as they actively encourage you to discuss your blood tests and I'm uncertain about it on this forum.

Just at present I'm taking a bit of a break from all forums...a lot to catch up on.
You'll find a significant proportion of the girls on the thyroid forum were on for years, or are still on, pdrugs..so there's a good chance there are a few over there who have been on your combo.
Some are treated for their thyroid conditions by their pdocs. Others were misdiagnosed for years.
The General Hypo section gets read the most.
If you do try over there as you still need help, make sure you put in a meaningful title to your post to attract attention.
Hope this helps
Jan

Thanks for all your help.

That's good news. When you get the results..even if they are "normal" email them to me(my babblemail is on)..or check with the thyroid forum...you can post there to me and I get an email notification (if it works<g>)or otherwise someone else should help if I miss your post.
I'm only saying this as sometimes "normal" is not OK..and not all endos keep up to date with their own latest findings or even agree with them, sigh.
I do hope they are OK though.
Make sure you mention all the pdrugs you have been on ...it's best to make a shortlist of all of your symptoms. putting the physical ones first..like exhausted, hair falling out, cold hands and feet..and finish off with depression, anxiety etc. I always forget what I want to say when I get in the office otherwise...yeah hopeless short term memory is another
http://thyroid.about.com/cs/hypothyroidism/a/checklist.htm may help you with some ideas for the list
Good Luck,
Jan
