Does anyone know if theres any way I could get some tryptophan in the UK?
It can't be bought as a supplement here and can only be precribed if you have already tried antidepressants for two years with no help from them and even then you have to take it with an antidepressant.

Quality Health Incorperated sell L-tryptophan at a very reasonable price. They also deliver quickly! They have a UK based website, I am UK to by the way.
You can find sources if you search the net but its usually very expensive.
I triad it and didn't find it amazing, but then I wasn't depressed at the time. It is certainly calming and for people with seratonin based problems its probably very useful. If you could give me any information on Doctor Cosgrove at the Bristol Priority clinic I would really apreciat it. I'm getting desperate for any information on the man!

Thanks, but I can't seem to find the site, do you have a link?
I'm sorry but I've never heard of Doctor Cosgrove or the Bristol Priority clinic.

At the risk of sounding cynical, if this is a law in the UK, I wonder if the drug companies lobbied for the legislation?

I asked a psychiatrist if I could try some the other day and he was like "Absolutely not, we only give that to people with severe mental illness that nothing else will help, it would give you a horrible serious blood disease!".
But then when I said I didn't want antidepressants because of the nasty side effects and withdrawal symptoms they gave me he said "No, those never happen, the only thing antidepressants do very occasionally is make you feel slightly nauseas and thats only when you first start taking them."
Methinks someones been brainwashed.

Hi everyone. Which would be that "horrible serious blood disease" associated with trypthopan ? The only thing I've read about it is what Dr. Amen says (there has been a contaminated patch years ago and so on) and I would like to know something more.
I have taken tryptophan for a while (I live in Italy) to target the supposed OCD part of ADHD-like syntoms and I have to say didn't like it. I have to add anyway that I had bad responses on every med I've tried that has something to do with serotonin, so it could be just a problem of mine.

Oh, I remebered to mention that the thing of the contaminated path scares me because the tripthopan I got was made by the pharmacist.
I don't want to be paranoid about does anyobody know *how* contaminated tryptophan was able to cause serious blood disease ?

> I don't want to be paranoid about does anyobody know *how* contaminated tryptophan was able to cause serious blood disease ?A Japanese chemical company developed a novel fermentation process that increased the yield of tryptophan. As it was a patented process, they were the only one doing it. When they were processing the fermentation product, to extract the tryptophan, they also used a non-standard and inferior purification step. They thought they were going to make a huge profit that way, eh? Anyway, the impure tryptophan contained a never-before-identified contaminant. It was this unique string of events that produced the contaminant, and the company's greed that released it to the marketplace. You can feel safe that they aren't letting that ever happen again. It just won't happen again.

Thanks Larry, my pharmacist isn't japanese so everything should be right ;-)
May I ask some more thing ?
I have adhd-like syntoms and I'm beginning to realize that I need some anti-stuck supplements in my regimen (limibic problems)according to your experience which are the best ?
I found tyrosine tremendously helping if I have to do things like going to the supermarket but of any or no use if I have to study, read and so on.
could you suggest a strategy ?

Sorry should have explained.
Type 'QHI' into Google and it should come right up! You have to make your first order through the post, which is a little complicated, but worth the effort in my opinion.
