Inspired by Scott and Dinah....,

I would like to ask Dr.Bob to very seriously considering resuming his moderation of Psychobabble. I think it's clear that, despite all the changes and stress it has gone through, this forum fulfills a vital social role in providing education and support. Sadly, it also seems clear that, if unmoderated, it will become progressively less useful and more destructive to everyone.

It is my hope that Dr. Bob will find a way to moderate in a way which does not take up too much of his time, which focuses only on genuinely hurtful conduct, and which will be personally rewarding to him.

If he wishes to consider this, a good starting point might be for him to tell us what behaviors of ours, if any, led him to stop moderating. We have been very open in expressing the frustrations we have felt, and an honest discussion of all aspects of our present situation might give us all an opportunity for a fresh start.

I hope that, if others would also like a new beginnng, they will express their views here, and that you will consider our requests seriously, Dr. Bob. I would personally love to see a lightly moderated forum which might recapture the best of Babbles past.

Very well said, Twinleaf.

I would try to participate in a renewal process of a moderation system. I like your idea of having Dr. Bob approach us with a discussion of what were the things that occurred on Psycho-Babble that dissuaded him from acting as a moderator. I was extremely critical of him and his moderation methods. I think I let things get too personal. I was very angry.

Psycho-Babble was a true gem of an Internet resource and forum community. I, too, would like to see this website nurtured so that it may thrive again and promote mental health along with personal enrichment.

I'm so glad you posted, Scott. I was furious, also, at getting such long blocks over what seemed like such innocent matters, and I know I said some harsh things here. The cumulative effect of anger on many people's part may have been pretty hard to take, and may have made moderating seem like a thankless task, or worse.

Setting aside the rights and wrongs of the past, I think I have learned that moderating is best concentrated on important interactions which can be traumatizing. Even in an unmoderated board, this does not happen very often.

But when it does happen,

as it is now, it can have such a destructive effect on every part of our community. In times like this, we absolutely do need help.
