Well, like Mark Twain said, "The report of its [my] death was an exaggeration," I think that could be the case here, too. How long do we wait before we pronounce a thread *dead" at Babble? Only a day? Hmmm...

You started the thread about 24 hours ago which means many posters (in the U.S/Canada, etc.) could have been asleep at least 1/3 of the time since then. Dinah answered you just last night, so maybe that will spark more replies. That seems to happen - people start posting after the first person posts.

I think the Social board is active enough to not lose hope after only scarcely a day :-)

Maybe a little patience and faith?

I myself will try to respond if I can think of something helpful to say.

I'm not sure there is much use in trying to convince Dr. Bob to not separate medication issues from other topics. He has not been interesed in doing so for a lot of years, it seems. I myself wonder if he stopped redirections would the meds board become a jumbled mass of topics, confusing and hard to sort through? I, for one, scan it but would have been *more* likely to see your post on Social. I think there may be a number of posters who really appreciate the separation of posts into categories.

Of course, you and everyone are entitled to your views. Just things to think about...

You are right about the thread which Phillipa brought up. But overall, she is right that redirection does kill threads. I think that a certain amount of redirection is really needed to maximize the usefulness of the boards. But there have been times when it appears excessive to many of us - for example, redirecting posts from Medication to Neurotransmitters. At the moment, the amount of redirection seems appropriate to me, although, several months ago it did appear excessive, and did appear to result in the sudden ending of a lot of threads.

I have noticed that a high level of stressful communication here on Administration seems to correlate with an increased volume of redirection on the other boards.

Dr. Bob hasn't been around lately, so he hasn't been redirecting much. I doubt it's a change in philosophy.

Likely when he's around more, Admin heats up, and he also redirects more.

I've hardly seen him around here since his trip to Africa. Wasn't that in September?

Personally since guilt is a feeling I'd have redirected to psychology. Guilt to me isn't social. Phillipa

Sure, if you were in therapy, had been in therapy or planning to seek therapy about the feeling/problem.

Or even if you wanted to ask about how people's Ts might handle this sort of a family question.

But the top of the board says this is the purpose:

"It focuses on psychology and psychotherapy: different theoretical orientations and techniques, the therapy process, transference and counter-transference, how to find a therapist, etc. Discussion here is not itself psychotherapy."

I try to re-read that when I wonder if a post is best suited there or on Socail.

Only matters what Dr. Bob thinks, anyway, I suppose :-)

I answered on Social because that was where I felt comfortable answering. The forum had already been questioned, and I figured Dr. Bob would redirect it were he here.

But in future, if you prefer, I'll simply not respond at all, then it won't be an issue.

Which brings up a topic I think I once asked if the med board is for treatment resistant folks why doesn't it say so? As many posters say it is. Also updating of the meds listed serzone is only availble generically now. Lots of work to update things around here of course only in my opinion and it's how I feel Phillipa

Dinah seriously it doesn't matter to me as someone stated earlier Bob isn't around and the issue will be resolved by then. Off to research for my ebay item now. Phillipa

I'm glad it didn't bother you. It sounded as if it had.

I have had some experience in my life with the situation you described, and I hoped you'd find what I had to say helpful.

I think it's easier to make posts relevant to the topic on the Psychology Board, since no matter what is bothering you, it's natural to discuss it in terms of therapy. Is it possible to do the same on the Medication Board? That's another alternative to posting on the board Dr. Bob thinks a post belongs on, in addition to linking to a post as I described previously.

The pictures changed so frequently, I wondered if maybe he didn't set up some kind of random widget or something to select pics from a group of them.

(shrugs) just a thought.

That's what I often do Dinah. LOL

I'll post about something that really doesn't belong on meds, but then I add a medication question to it and then it can stay on meds LOL. I hope Dr. Bob doesn't mind. rofl

I'm devious. LOL

> Well from some of the e-mails I get from old posters they have voiced a lot of dissention on here with good threads turning into somewhat battles, too many redirects is a definite as the posts die thereafter. Quite a few that left are now on facebook as they feel they can control who they accept as friends and you can delete your own post if you write some and then have posters regret. It's kind of happier too lots of joking and positives. No blocks either. Phillipa

You mean people are using Facebook to discuss their meds? That doesn't sound right .... are you sure?

But Phillipa, you have to agree that your thread had nothing to do with meds. It belonged on another board. Personally, I would have placed it on the psychology board.

But you just wrote that you add a med question at the of your post to make it "med" related. Why would you bother doing that if you don't mind being re-directed. What is the point of that deception?

I'm so confused. I am going to bed.

Only per private message. Not threads they are fun threads or learning threads have a lot of professional musicians also, and neighbors, family, only those taking meds from babble either e-mail me directly or from facebook. Phillipa

I just like having the most people read my post. After that I don't care what happens to my post. I just like the initial attention. :)

Well then that doesn't really replace PB does it? You are only posing questions to a few, rather than a large group here at PB. So I don't think people left PB to go to Facebook. They have entirely different functions.

Deneb, I have noticed that you start a lot threads and people take the time to respond to you and give you advice. But then you never return to the thread! Don't be like the boy who cried wolf.

Try to figure out why you like the initial attention and why does it wear off when people start responding to you. Is it because you don't want to read what they have to say?

Maxime

This can be very off putting for me when I take the time to construct a response to a post. I try not to take it personally though, but instead am apt to not post at all.

I do return to the thread. Sometimes I don't know what to say. I do read all the responses.
