as to why any of us who already opted out in the summer are posting to opt out again??

Dr. Bob is not himself linking people's posts to Twitter (who opted out), though granted he has made that possibility more streamlined for OTHERS.

I understand those changing their minds, such as Dinah.

Dr. Bob cannot prevent other people from linking [y]our posts to Twitter.

You mean by this you are saying: "Take those buttons off my posts!!!" ??

I am not trying to be annoying or to defend Dr. Bob either, i just have a logical streak and it is all mixed up over this...

Is that why??

Thanks for the hugs.

I just don't understand *this thread.*

I don't understand repeating oneself or how posting anything extra here helps the actual issue at all, which is about other people, other than Dr. Bob.

I really want straightening out, but I am a hard case. :-(

"Hi, everyone,

Sorry about springing those on you all. I'm working on an adjustment to address some of your concerns. I'll reply in more detail later. Thanks for your patience,

Bob "

As ever, he doesn't think bout the people, he gets caught up in his computer stuff.
This is Bob, classic Bob.
He DOES NOT 'get 'it'. He doesn't understand how it is for us babblers, he just doesn't.
I am sad to see people beating their heads over his stuff.
But I been here a long time and this is Bob. take it or leave it. he doesn't change. Just don't get all beat up bout it.
Take care,

Well, I think in practice it is a moot point. Unless someone with a wide following starts using our posts, they will likely languish in obscurity.

But that doesn't change the moral culpability. What I posted on Babble was meant for Babble, and is in context with everything I post on Babble. For Dr. Bob to start inviting everyone to tweet the intimate sharings of others on a board where he should feel grateful that people felt safe enough to share... Well it makes me feel sick.

I agree - Dr. Bob does not get it. It is hard to believe that he is actually a psychiatrist. He must have stopped treating patients a long time ago and focused solely on the computer - which seems like a bit of contradiction. I say that because while computers can provide some help in psychiatry/therapy they probably should not be a replacement. But if he treats people on this board so poorly (allowing this stuff to be on Twitter), I would hate to see how he treated patients.

Perhaps if enough people write not so nice things about him - which would all go to Twitter - he would understand why it does not make sense to have everything published.

Pl do put none of my posts on Twitter or Facebook

This includes any from any time back to when I joined.

I've already opted out, but there are so many recent "opting outs" that I'm feeling nervous & want to reiterate that I am Opting Out.

Thanks Kath

Except for Dr. Bob, respecting the opt out list is purely voluntary. Or at least that is my understanding.

So if for example, someone at home or work has access to your computer, and finds you at Babble by following your history, and finds your posts here interesting, they can with one tweet send them around to their friends list, which may well include people you know. This was always true, but Dr. Bob didn't always include an invitation on each post to "tweet this post" with an easy link to do something that might not occur to them otherwise.

I just didn't want anyone to get a false sense of security as to what this list means.

Anyone who reads your posts can hit that button and it will work for them. Reading and respecting the opt out list is purely voluntary.

If I'm wrong about this, I hope Dr. Bob will set me straight.

{I request that no one tweet or link any of my posts without asking me first.}

I request that also!

Thanks for clarifying it Dinah. Could it only happen from my own computer?

Could someone (anyone) be reading on PsychoBabble & put any post on Twitter or Facebook by clicking on something?

Kath

Yes.

On their own twitter of facebook page. At that point, I'm not sure what the visibility is.

I just noticed that each post has those options at the bottom.

So from what I'm gathering, with a click on a button, provided RIGHT at the bottom of all posts, ANYone, ANYwhere can send that post to a Facebook or Twitter friend & can post it in public. I am very very upset about this. Many of us have posted extremely personal & sensitive material on PB. I'm VERY upset about this.

I don't remember agreeing to THAT when I first signed onto PsychoBabble. I knew that Dr. Bob could use what was on this site. I don't remember giving permission that anyone who read anything could, with ONE CLICK of a button provided for them, could make it totally public information. Am I wrong??? DID I give that permission????

Anyone with an Internet connection (not just members of Babble) can click on the buttons on any of the posts on Babble, no matter if they are in the past, present or future and Tweet or Facebook any post to their own personal Twitter or Facebook account. This has always been the case as Babble is a public forum. The only difference now is that there are buttons that let anyone do that easily.

The Do No Tweet/FB list is voluntary, to the best of my knowledge and even if it were not voluntary, we can not stop anyone from Tweeting or Facebooking any of our posts. It is up to the person clicking on the button to look through the Do Not Tweet list to make sure the person they are about to Tweet/FB is not on the list.

If you want to discourage people from clicking the button for your post, you can do what Dinah is doing in writing that you do not wish to be Tweeted/Facebooked. This doesn't guarantee that people won't Tweet your post and in some cases if the reader has malicious intent, they may even purposefully Tweet your post, so I am unsure whether or not writing it down would make it better or worse.

I personally have no problem being Tweeted or Facebooked, but I understand a lot of people do have problems with it.

Thanks Deneb.

I wish those buttons weren't there. It just makes it so quick & easy & almost like it puts the idea in the reader's mind to put the post somewhere.

I realize that anyone can cut & paste, etc.

I certainly don't feel as safe or comfortable posting about my life now. This makes me tremendously sad.

:-((((((((((((((((((((

Kath

I had no idea when the first talk of Twitter was happening that there'd be the option at the bottom of each post.

I'm sad that my friends are sad and upset about this. Dr. Bob thinks this will be good for Babble and I certainly hope he is right because right now it is just making all my friends leave or refrain from posting.

Babblemail and Chat are still private Kath. I'm in chat a lot. Chat seems to be a lot busier now ever since yesterday. Chat is pretty safe. I hope to see you in chat more often.

Dr. Bob said one advantage of the icons is to remind us we have never been safe on Babble. Perhaps he might also consider it an advantage to know what sort of people read our posts on Babble.

Somehow I don't see that as a real advantage on a website for mutual support.

Mind you, I am positive that no one I am friends with would do such a thing against my expressed wishes. However, if he's going to be doing this, I wish he would also give us a way of seeing who is doing it, so we know how to respond to that person (whether they are a poster or perhaps someone in our private life) accordingly. As it is, they have the advantage over us in that they know they are tweeting or linking us, but we don't know who has totally disregarded our feelings in the matter.

I'd like to know that.

{I request that no one tweet or link any of my posts without asking me first.}
