OK, done. Just e-mailed APA about non-members. I'll post what they say. Thanks

OK, no problem. Shall I resurrect this project? Maybe you should post something about the T-shirt idea, you have a lot more authority than I do and can command more attention.

I heard back from the APA. This is what they wrote:

Nonmember presenters can attend other sessions on the day of their
presentation and enroll in a course on the same day but if they want to
attend any other day they must pay the daily fee ($400) if their adding
one day or the full time fee ($785) if its more than one day. To enroll
in a course or add additional days, the registration form should be
completed and faxed or mailed to me with a note indicating they are
already in the registration system as a nonmember presenter and should
have proper payment. There is no discount for the registration fee for
nonmember presenters.

Darn, I forgot to ask what presentations there are on the day we present.

Hmmm...she referred to nonmember *presenters*....I'm not sure I would be considered a "presenter"...I would have to be registered in their system. Would we be registered in their system Dr. Bob? Or do you not know?

Oh well, I'm too afraid to go to one of those presentations alone anyways. I'm afraid I'll look out of place. Is anyone interested in them?

Oh no, did I post private information without permission? I don't think I did because anyone could have gotten that information. I think that information would be useful for those going to the APA meeting. I think that information is meant to be available to anyone who seeks it. That information was not personal, it was business related...much like the phone numbers and addresses in the yellow pages.

Also, I know it isn't good to post more than three times in a row, but I just really had to ask this question, plus two were in reply to other posts.

In this case, I'd like the plan to come from those who are interested. What do you all think?

I think I remember hearing that even people who aren't going would like a Tshirt.

And my thought is that it should be something that has meaning to Babblers. I liked the "Please be civil" idea. :) Although I'm not wed to it.

Just got a reply...

I wrote:

Thank-you for your reply.

You mentioned that non-member presenters can attend other sessions and
enroll in courses on the day of their presentation, but does this apply to
non-members who are not registered in your system? Dr. Hsiung's presentation
involves the participation of a number of anonymous participants from his
online support forum. Would these anonymous participants be able to attend
other sessions and enroll in courses on the day of their presentation?

The reply:

They would be able to attend other sessions if they have a meeting badge
but if not they can not attend any sessions, all that are involved in
the presentations should be registered.

--------------------------

Shoot, I forgot to ask her whether or not we could register anonymously. I don't care about anonymity, but I imagine others would. Are you going to register us Dr. Bob?

It sounds like if we are able to get meeting badges (which we need to get in anyways), we *can* attend other presentations. :-) There's a list of workshops at http://www.psych.org/edu/ann_mtgs/am/06/index.cfm click on Tentative Scientific Program.

Hmmm...the only problem is, most of the workshops occur at the same time as ours.

Whoa nelly!

Is Dr. Bob's registration the one at issue, or am I expected to register if I wanted to flesh out the presentation? I don't have $400 or whatever to throw around.

I believe the registration fee is waived for presenters on the day of their presentation.

Quote:
NONMEMBER program participants
(only for the day(s) of their presentation.)
Program participants who are not APA
members and will automatically be registered
for the meeting, (except for those presenting
industry-supported symposia who must
register and pay the fee) with the registration
fee waived only for the day(s) you make
program presentations. Nonmembers who
plan to attend the meeting on other days
and/or enroll in courses must register and pay
the appropriate fee by fax or mail only.

What should we do when we get together? I wanna plan now. :-)

OK, everyone post the things you most want to do in Toronto.

I found this great deal to see the main attractions in Toronto. It's called the Toronto CityPass.

http://www.citypass.com/city/toronto.html

It includes admission to:
• CN Tower
• Art Gallery of Ontario
• Royal Ontario Museum
• Casa Loma
• Ontario Science Centre
• Toronto Zoo

You get admission to all 6 attractions for $44.65 USD for adults and $28.25 USD for youth. It's valued at $89.11 USD.

($47.00 CAD for adult, $29.75 CAD for youth)

You have 9 days from first use to visit each attraction once.

I'm arriving on May 19th and I'm staying for 4 days, including the 19th.

If we decide to do a lot of things together then I won't buy the CityPass.

I'm still hoping to eat oysters with Larry. Anyone else want to join us?

Anyone know of some good streets to walk around in?

I'm staying in a hostel, anyone want to join me?

I'm going to bring my camera, but I won't take anyone's picture without permission first.

Are we going to drink alcoholic drinks? If we do I'm going to have to stop taking my meds for a while so there won't be some horrible reaction.

I hope I know how to get to all the places on the CityPass! The public transit system looks scary complicated. LOL

I can't wait for the trip! It's going to be so fun! It's going to be an adventure.

I looked back at previous posts and I discovered that the Toronto CityPass went up in price from $38.35 USD ($78.18 USD value)to $44.65 USD ($89.11 USD value).

Deneb arrives

Saturday May 20
Dr. Bob has meeting during the day
Deneb is free to wander the streets...LOL

Sunday May 21
Dr. Bob is busy
Again Deneb is free to wander...

Monday May 22
9-10:30am Small groups presentation
After the workshop Deneb is again free for the whole day (I'm staying overnight on Mon)

Lets make a list of possible activities
• dinner
• lunch
• museums
• CN tower
• zoo
• walk in park
• walk around downtown
• eating oysters with Larry :-)
• Tie dying our t-shirts
• Skipping through the streets and singing in unison rofl
• start threads in real life lol
• three legged races LOL
• eat ice cream together
• we could have silly contests and win prizes
• play games
• go shopping
• play tag in the park
• have deep and serious conversations about the meaning of life LOL

Everyone, please feel free to add your schedule and activities to the list.

I don't drink. Keep taking your meds.

Last year, in Chicago we found that we were super exhausted by Saturday late afternoon. We met first for dinner on Friday. So I think we should be aware that we might not want to jam pack every minute of every day. Some time when we are just hanging out (and some alone time) is helpful.

I love the zoo. And I love ice cream.

Does Dr. Bob drink? I want to join Dr. Bob in drinking. I don't drink a lot. Usually I don't drink at all because I don't like alcohol. I only tolerate it when it doesn't taste like alcohol, but I want to try stuff like Tequila and Scotch and stuff. There is so much I have yet to experience! I won't stop taking my meds. I think I'll take a small sip. I wonder if Dr. Bob could not completely finish his drinks and let me have the last sip to try?

Just hanging out together would be fine with me, as would time alone to do whatever we want.

Just so you know, the zoo is really far from downtown. I am sure the subway goes there but it's an all-day activity.

I don't recommend that Babblefest be the time and place for you to experiment with drinking, then. I don't drink. You don't have to drink. And you should *not* stop your meds in order to drink. That would be two errors in judgment, in my opinion.

The zoo is on the extreme eastern outskirts of the city. Although it is a lovely place to visit, it would be an all-day side trip. I'll look into the logistics. I grew up in Toronto, so I know my way around quite well.

I haven't booked airfare or hotel, yet, so I can't say for sure, but right now I am planning to get there Saturday morning and leave Monday afternoon.

We need to find a place and time to meet before we can really plan what else to do. Meeting at the restaurant in Chicago was perfect. We decided from there what to do the next day.

I've been to Toronto, but don't know it well enough to suggest any place to meet. So, Tour Guide Larry, help us out on this one.

I won't really drink Larry. If people can leave a few drops for me after they finish their drink, I can taste it.

How long does it take to get to the zoo from downtown? I'll only go if other people want to go. I don't think it'll be much fun all by myself.

Do you know your way around the transit system Lar? I'm afraid of getting lost on a bus or subway.

In reply to Re: Okay, as of today we've got » Larry Hoover, posted by Deneb on February 25, 2006, at 16:58:50

That San Francisco thread got me thinking...about making conversation.

I'm not much of a conversationalist. I let others do most of the talking. I don't really have anything interesting to talk about. I don't really have a life yet.

I don't know if I'm going to have much in common with other people who are going. I suspect not. Am I going to be the weird girl in the corner? Am I going to hide my face? What if I hide my face? What if I get really scared and homesick? No one can rescue me then.

I think people will talk and talk and I would just sit there, too afraid to make conversation.

What if I don't fit in? I think the people who are going will have much more life experience than I do. What if I get lonely?

Worried.
