I feel like I haven't said much about the weekend. But it is hard to know what to say. Except that it was fabulous beyond my wildest dreams.
Everyone was so authentic. It took no time to be comfortable because we already know each other. It is interesting because usually you see people first, and come up with a "first impression", and then (over time) get to know who they really are (if you are lucky). But with us, we *know* who each other really is, and the seeing seemed more like just figuring out which body belonged to which person. There was additional information gleaned from being together - gestures, facial expressions, accents, pace of talking, real live hugs. But it really is interesting to get these pieces of information second rather than first.
I was not surprised by anyone - no one was vastly different from the person I know through the board. Spoc was the hardest - but while she might not be what I expected (I think I was still expecting a guy...), her on-board persona really does fit perfectly with her IRL person.
It was a very intense weekend (next year we should schedule naps in the afternoons - can we find a kindergarten that would lend us their mats for the weekend?). And I think it will take me some time to digest all that I observed.
I want to tell each person who came how special they are. But it is too overwhelming to find the words right now.
As exhausting as the weekend was, I feel energized and alive!
Thanks, Dr. Bob, for making all of this possible (and for being a real person yourself). Thanks to all who attended for being such special people. And I'm looking forward to meeting more Babblers over time - what an amazing group.

EEEK! I hope I can take "hardest" to mean, closest to being vastly unlike what you expected! ;-) One of the reasons I wanted to come was to show after all this time that whatever a "Spoc" is, I'm not like one; and amongst other things, I actually DON'T talk a ton or drone on (and on and on...) in person, lol!

Same place as the purses, which are incidentally back up and running.
Anyway, if people send you money, can you do it that way? You can even charge more than the cost.

Many, many thanks to annierose! It was such a surprise to see a festive table waiting for us.
And a hearty thank you to the babblere that were there - for making me feel 'un-odd' if that makes any sense.
More thanks go to the babblers wo couldn't make it - for the good wishes.
And a special thanks to Dr. Bob.

>I hope I can take "hardest" to mean, closest to being vastly unlike what you expected! ;-)
Yes, that is exactly what I meant. I think that I didn't actually have an impression of what you would be like. You are definately less thorough in person (but, as I said, I can relate to thoroughness myself...). And when I say "hardest", remember that everything is relative. I think I expected everyone to be much "harder" than I found you to be. So it wasn't that you were "hard", it was that most of the others were SO much easier than I expected. Like it was 1 second of "Oh, that is who XXX is", whereas, it took multiple seconds (but not many) to match my online impression of you to your IRL self. I had expected that it would take hours with everybody, so multiple seconds is still much shorter than I expected. You (IRL) fit very nicely with your on-board self. And I like the whole you very much.
I think I should be quiet now. I don't know if I made this better - do I at least get points for trying?

Next year, I hope there is one, I'm going too.

This thread is way too long to get kicked onto social.
The Greek Chorus was what we were going to do if we came with you to therapy. We'd just put masks over our faces (to indicate our emotions) as you talk.

Awww thanks (you do take PayPal don't you ;)?
You are pretty darn sparkli and adorable yourself girlie, and I love your zest, spirit and inquisitive nature... (good try on grilling Dr. Bob, keep honing those skills for 2006!) You know everyone seems to remind me of someone, I am trying to think who you remind me of... Sandra Bullock maybe, someone else too but I'm mighty slow today! Anyway I'm so glad you could make it, you added a lot. :-)

LOL, oh it's fine, thanks! Just making sure I got it right! Boy, it all went by so fast, not much time for individual conversations but you're right, almost instantly it felt like everyone already knew each other. Happy and comfortable from the start, with everyone bringing their own special touch to things.

... of course I was only here at babble about four months last year and less than a month this year (pretty much only on Admin and Soc). Most peop probably wouldn't have an impression at all, either way. In fact I wondered before the party if that could make someone who doesn't know who I am at all uncomfortable, so I was glad it all worked out fine. :-)

> Have you thought of the actress I reminded you of? She must be fabulous of course!!Indeed! And it is not that other actress someone mentioned that I was thinking of, but I don't how to figure it out! She is what I think is called a "character actress/actor," as I understand it, meaning she's had bit parts in many things, including TV movies. I may have to see her in something again to figure it out, so don't ever turn off your babblemail! ;-)

At least that is what I just came up with. Don't know if that's who you are thinking of for Annierose.
I love her, by the way. Such an expressive face. Great smile...that sure sounds like Annierose to me. Thirtysomething was a great show.

In reply to Melanie Mayron!, posted by gardenergirl on June 6, 2005, at 19:27:26
Hi there gg! You know I can kinda see that, in a "family resemblance" way: as the cutest of the Mayron siblings! With a beautiful complexion, smile, and of course, at the times she wasn't all quirkied up (which was indeed always interesting nonetheless)! Melanie was terrific, as was the show itself, I agree. I rarely allow myself to test out and get hooked on any new shows anymore (I have enough problems with electronic babysitters already! ;), but that was one I couldn't miss at the time.
Glad I got to meet you, and that you made it back home safe and sound!

This is a gratifying thread. And thanks to Dr. Bob for putting up this lovely picture. It's now part of my slide show on my screensaver, but I want to know who's who. I'll have to check and see if there's something on the board here, I'll bet there is.

..I got your email eventually...I'm not here much cause I'm not of this world.
..Anyway I'd prefer the sunflower pic ~ so what do others think?..much brigter simpler and positive...and could be made in a cartoon-ish printer friendly way..that's if I still got somewhere it in the cobwebs.
Even the pic shown above could be
simplified-I like it..maybe it's the phallic towers that does it for me..and who's the one in black/grey?..we're made for eachother..
