No, but when I checked for those mangled posts a long time ago, they weren't there...

Dr. Hsiung,
You wrote,[..No, but when I checked for those mangled posts a long time ago... weren't there...].
Could you clarify if you mean any of the following?
A. The mangled posts are different posts than the posts that you are referring to
B. The mangled posts are the same as the ones that you are looking for
C. There is no sense in serching for your posts because other posts a long time ago disappeared and I couldn't find them so thearfore I will not be able to find your posts in question.
D. Posts become known as mangled posts when I can't find them, even if they are recent.
E. Your posts in question may be able to be found in the backup.
F. A long time ago, could not mean a few months
G None of the above
H. A combination of the above
K. All of the above
L. Something else

Hi Lou,
In reading this thread, I see no indication that Dr. Bob is looking for the posts you cannot find. My interpretation is that he is offering hypotheses about why you cannot find them.

And FYI, I tried a Google search as well, and I could not find it. Do you remember the time frame of the post?

The time frame was I think about 4 months ago or so for when Dr. Hsiung wrote to me about my use of the word, "violate" and I rewrote that statement that contained the word. Then I initiated another thread, I think, about a few days later with a request to Dr. Hsiung to clarify the difference, if any, as to another poster using the same word.

In your opinion, would the sysop of a mental-health community have an implied duty to find the missing posts that a member of the community requests for him to find by checking the backup system?

I am limited to a search, for the backup is not available to me, for it is my understanding that the owner, the sysop, has access to the backup, not the members of the community.
So are you saying that since I do not have access to the backup, that I can not find the posts in question, but Dr. Hsiung could access the backup and possibly find them, but he is not attempting to do so?

Hi Lou,
I am just saying than in reading what has been posted in this thread, I do not see where Dr. Bob overtly stated he was looking for the posts.

I have no idea what the duties of a sysop are, so I'm afraid that I can't answer your question in your prior post.

I'm sorry you have not had luck in finding your posts.

There could be other methods to find the posts, but could need a computer expert to do so for I asked one and he said that if it was posted, even though it is not available here now, it could be found. But I would rather not pay to have these posts brought back here, so if anyone here is an expert, could you help?

Dr. Hsiung,
Do you consider your not attempting to find them a sound mental-health practice? I have requested that you check your backup for the missing posts and I know of no other way to find them without paying an expert and you agree that they could possibly be found by you checking your back up.
Also, do you consider it supportive by you not attempting? And is not the goal of the forum to be for support? Have you not written that you give a higher priority to support than freedom of speech? Also, is it civil for the sysop that has the means to accommodate a members request to write,[...I'm not attempting to do so, sorry...] without even stateing that you would later?
You wrote to me to rephrase a statement because I used the word,"violate". If your post to me was not missing, I could have the opportunity to ask you what the difference could be that others used that word without you writng to them to rephrase the statement without the word.
Are there two different standards here? If those threads that are missing were brought back, then I could have the opportunity to defend my use of the word as being as to the accepted standard of the past practice here.
You write that there is a "remote" chance that something in the software could have caused two threads with dialog between us to vanish from the record. But does that then mean that there is a greater chance that the threads were deliberatly deleted by someone other than you since you write that you did not delete them? And if so, who could have access to the server to do so? And if so, why ?
Then why not bring those threads back if they can be, and have it out in the open?
I have had emails that write that it is remembered that these threads did exist but can not be found and I would like to set the record straight. Did you not write, "for the record" in one of our other dialogs? You wanted it in the record and so do I.

Dr Hsiung,
We have the posts in question cited in this thread.
My post in question states,[...could be deemed to violate the civility code here...]
You wrote something like for me to rewrite the statement without the word,"violate" in it.
I then requested that you look at a post from the past and you wrote as to the difference between the two,[...hypothetical?...] I asked if your use of the question mark meant that you did not know why they are different. I do not find a reply from you to me about that.
In the following post, the poster writes,[...seems like it should violate the rules...].
Could you offer some explanation as to why the former is unacceptable and the latter is acceptable?

Dr. Hsiung,
I had previously requested that you write a determination about another post in regards to this by Dinah, and I believe that since I could not produce the post of mine, that it was on hold untill the post by me was found.
The following post could be the same post or a different post by Dinah but the statement,[...posts that violate the civility policy...] was not requested by you to Dinah to write her post without the word,"violate" and I am requesting that you write what the difference between her post and mine could be for you to ask me to leave out the word and her not so that your determination could determine whether or not here that there could be different standards.
