Dr. Hsiung,
I am requesting that you determine if the following is acceptable or not in relation to the past practice here.
I feel accused and put down when I read thefollowing.[...he is...insensitive...]

>I feel he is being even more insensitive to me now than he was before.>
into a judgemental statement about you
>[...he is...insensitive...]>.
Did you intentionally change her words to sound like an accusation, or is your distortion a mere accident?Toph

Toph,
You wrote,[...you have condensed...].
Yes, I do condense things at times so thatcollatteral words do not distort what is there in the statement. Whatever is around the part that I am requesting a determination about, to me is not relavant to what is there that when I read it , I feel accused. I feel accused when I read the statement in question because regardless of the words around what I am requesting to be determioned, I still can see that, in this case, the statement has in it,[...he is...insenstive...]. The fact that the poster "feels" that I am "insensitive" ,to me is not relavant. Now if Dr. Hsiung makes the determination that if you write,'I feel" in front of something that it makes it acceptable here, then could someone post something like,[...I feel that so and so is a "idiot"? Also, the other parts only say that the poster is saying that I am being {more} insensitive {than he was before} . Is that not judgmental? Is that not accusing?

Lou, there is a fundamental difference between the adverb *insensitive* as AG used it, "she feels you are being insensitive", and the adjective *insensitive* that you used in your version, "...He...is...insensitive." Understanding that your feelings can be different than the intent of the other person, can you see that AG's statement and your condenced version clearly have different meanings?

Lou, I am not disputing that at times someone has accused you of being an insensitive person, god knows, you are exquisitely sensitive to many things. I was attempting to point out that in AG's case your shorthand distorted what she was saying about what you did. If I may be so bold as to represent what she said again, she felt(something you cannot dispute) that YOU WERE BEING INSENSITIVE about something, and you felt(something only you can confirm) that she was accusing you of BEING AN INSENSITIVE PERSON. I was hoping that you would acknowledge the difference between these two points of view, instead you obfuscated my proposition with various examples of other threads in which you felt wronged.
I am sorry that you feel the need to be on the defensive so much here, Lou. It must be exhausting.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

Follow-ups regarding these issues, as well as replies to the above post, should of course themselves be civil.
