Question first: when did babble first appear, about? Wondered the other day how early I was here.
My suggestion is something that might reduce some PBCs and be a little fun, too, maybe. Last week, I was in a tidal wave of hurting, and used a short word derived from Anglo Saxon because I just didn't have it in me to find any of my usual semi-synonyms for that situation. When I read Dr Bob's post asking me to be civil, I had my own reactions to it, and I got over them because he was right and he was very kind in his manner of asking me at that time.
It also added a little hurt and a little shame and a little guilt -- three things I was primed to look to add to my load at that moment, so it really was all about me, not about the PCB.
Anyway, the suggestion was a way to avoid those little pinpricks we can give ourselves that way -- how about a little set of PsychoBabble emoticon-style icons we can insert easily instead of trying to find the motivation to type out somthing like <expletive deleted>? Nothing offensive, maybe even as simple as a little icon *saying* <expletive deleted>, for that matter.
Any thoughts out there?

I'm glad it wasn't too bad...

I like emoticons, I really, really do (see how much more effective that would be with a little row of smiley's jumping up and down). On a more serious note, though, it would be interesting to see whether the use of emoticons could assist people in reading the tone of the message, and this in turn may decrease the number of hostile (angry, or offended) interpretations. Just a thought.
This is the end of the thread.
