> I think you've stepped over the line on this call. I don't think the use of such minor hyperbole constitutes being uncivil. In deference to your concern about language, I have self-censored all of my poems on the writing page from day one. But here, I honestly think you're laying down a standard that is so ludicrous that it has a stifling effect on robust political debate.
Can we just agree to disagree? Robust political debate is fine with me as long as it's civil, but it's not part of the mission here...
Thanks for taking care not to use language that could offend others at Writing, I appreciate that.

You took the words right out of my mouth: Let's agree to disagree. I still think that a healthy, robust discussion about anything -- discourse that may include polite disagreement on the part of the various parties -- is a legitimate part of "just being social." I also think that engagement with and discussion of topics ranging from social issues to just a new movie is part of a mutually uplifting psychological interaction, and is as helpful mentally as other kinds of support. Even if we're not talking about ourselves, the things we choose to talk about still say a lot about us. By the by, how about adding a Psycho-Babble Movies page to complement the books page? Atticus

Maybe they could just be included there? I don't know if Psycho-Babble Media sounds very catchy, though...

Well, it was just a thought. A lot of people (such as me) have strong emotional attachments to certain films and film characters, and I thought a forum to discuss them would be fun and enlightening. For example, when I chose my posting name, it was not merely the Atticus Finch of the book "To Kill a Mockingbird"; it is very specifically the Gregory Peck interpretation in the Oscar-winning film to which I'm attached and which I admire (and even aspire to be more like, to whatever degree I can). As long as you make it clear that the discussion of films and film characters, whether based on printed literature or not, is kosher on Writing, there's no need to create a new page. But I do think my generation is much more geared to respond to visual storytelling -- despite the fact that I love to write. If it's OK to bring up movies on Books, please let me know. Atticus
